Winterfate's RT News Thread

Unread postby winterfate » 21 Feb 2007, 02:05

Hi guys!!

So, I decided to create my own News Thread. That way Kalah can post at his own pace and I can post at my own :D.

Remember I said my next interview was going to be around Friday? Well...
I didn't lie...so you'll have to wait.

However, I will copy over the interviews I've done that are in the RTW thread so you can read them...

Necromancy Interview 1:

Well, I'll give it a shot (in any case, a mod could just delete the post if he/she considers it appropiate).

*Takes a deep breath*:

Hello to all here at the Round Table. This is winterfate signing in to do a freelance report on the Hammers of Fate 2.1 Dark Energy concept for the necromancers.

So, here I go (have mercy on my first interview readers :D):

I have found a necromancer about a day's distance from his Necropolis. Let's talk to him, shall we?

winterfate: Hello!
Necromancer: Good day. What brings you to this bleak and desolate piece of swamp?

winterfate: Well, I was hoping to get your thoughts on the new Dark Energy concept released in the new patch for HoF.
Necromancer: You do realize I'm not supposed to know about the patches and stuff. I'm an ingame character...

winterfate: Right...yet you do know about the change...right?
Necromancer: Of course. One day I was raising Skeleton Archers...all of a sudden, I raised a Lich.

winterfate: That must've been a surprise.
Necromancer: Indeed. At first I thought something was wrong with my skill set...

winterfate: Hold on. Your skill set?
Necromancer: Don't tell me you don't have the newest patch...

winterfate: Um...well...uh...
Necromancer: disagree Well, it works like this. Nival changed the Skeleton Archer ability with the Mark of the Necromancer. That Archer ability is no longer needed. But, that was actually the result of the insane overhaul by the programmers for the Dark Energy.

winterfate: Oh, ok. So, how's the change been working out for you?
Necromancer: Ok, I guess. I miss the pre 2.1 days of 3K skeleton archers though...

winterfate: So do I.
Necromancer: You don't have the patch though...

winterfate: Well, I'm downloading it now...
Necromancer: It's over 120 MBs in size. Are you sure your 56.6K connection can take it?

winterfate: Not really...
Necromancer: My master's turn is about to start, you should leave. I see you have a grand total of 7 Hunters with you. You wouldn't want me to attack you, now would you?

winterfate: Um...good point. Thanks for the interview!
Necromancer: Anytime.

This is winterfate signing out. With any luck, I'll be back for more at another time. Until then, take care!

Necromancy Interview 2:

I got 2.1 installed today and started playing a map with the new Necromancy concept. Let's see what the Necromancer has to say about that...

I reach the same Necropolis from the previous interview. This time, it is under attack by Haven troops:

winterfate: Anybody home?
Necromancer: Um...winterfate? Don't you think this is NOT the time?!

winterfate: Sorry, I just wanted to know what you thought about the Dark Energy...
Necromancer: Didn't I already tell you?

winterfate: Well, I...
*catapult breaks down the castle gate*
Necromancer: You installed the patch I assume?
Necromancer: Wait a second... *orders Archliches to attack the opposing hero's Marksmen, killing them*

winterfate: Well, yes...
Necromancer: What do YOU think about the Dark Energy concept?

winterfate: Hey, this is MY interview! But...frankly, to answer your question, I find it's convoluted...
Necromancer: Well, it could be worse...look at that army full of Peasants. Poor guy couldn't train any of them into Marksmen.

winterfate: Um, can't you just march your troops outside of the castle and defeat that army...it's just a bunch of Peasants...
Necromancer: Where's the fun in that? I have to stretch this out...

winterfate: Okay...I'll just wait here with my retinue of Master Hunters and watch you stretch this out...50 gold says you can't raise any troops.
Necromancer: Unlike YOU, I actually understand the DE concept.

winterfate: Bah, I've got my Master Hunters. Who needs Necromancy?
Necromancer: *casts Curse of the Netherworld; Master Hunters fall dead* Correction, you HAD your Master Hunters.

winterfate: Shouldn't you be...
Necromancer: Killing the peasants...um...take a look...they're already dead...

winterfate: *Gulp!* Um...ugh...
Necromancer: Now that the siege is lifted, I can tell you that the DE concept works well as you get stronger...AND that you should leave because you have a bounty on your head.

winterfate: Wha...what?
Necromancer: My master doesn't appreciate your incursions into his territory.

winterfate: Incursions? These are interviews...
Necromancer: Tell that to the Bone Dragons flying over here, as we speak...

winterfate: No, thank you! *casts Town Portal*

Uff...that was close! I'll never be going back there...thank you very much!

So, basically, DE works better late-game...but it stinks early-game.

This is winterfate signing out. In my next interview, I'll be talking to a non-Campaign Knight we all know (and some love) about the Training rules 2.1 change. Until then, take care!

Training Interview 1:

This is winterfate signing in. Today I will be giving the promised interview to the Non-Campaign Knight about the Training rules change.

Read on and see:

I reach the town of Farbreach at dawn, ready to interview Ellaine. She is helping a group of peasants harvest wheat.

winterfate: Hello, Ellaine!
Ellaine: Good day to you! Wait a minute, you look familiar...weren't you at that Necropolis town yesterday?

winterfate: Um...I'd rather not talk about that...
Ellaine: As you wish! Well, I got routed by that Necromancer, Exebar, and...

winterfate: So that was his name...
Ellaine: Excuse me?

winterfate: Just the wind, m'lady. Carry on.
Ellaine: Very well. So, I return here, but lo and behold, I can't train any more troops for the week.

winterfate: That's why I came.
Ellaine: To allow me to train more troops?

winterfate: No, peasant girl! To...
Ellaine: Did you just call me the peasant girl?

winterfate: Well, what's your ability?
Ellaine: I double the Taxpayer Ability, so it generates 2 instead of 1 gold.

winterfate: Exactly. That makes you the peasant girl.
Ellaine: Whatever...Like I was saying, all I have left is an army of Peasants.

winterfate: Why don't you upgrade them to Conscripts?
Ellaine: I won't get any extra gold from the peasants...

winterfate: Uh...and you want the gold for?!?!
Ellaine: To train come next week.

winterfate: Ahah...and meanwhile, I assume Exebar is mustering a retaliation force to come attack you. Shouldn't you upgrade to Conscripts...and while you're at it...train something other than Peasants and Marksmen...
Ellaine: But then I...

winterfate: Won't be able to train come next week...I know, I know. Well, you sure as heck can't train anything now!
Ellaine: But...

winterfate: Um...please TELL me you noticed the patch changes...
Ellaine: Who hasn't? They're keeping me from using the 1000 Marksman Rush.

winterfate: That explains a lot...
Ellaine: Huh?

winterfate: Nevermind. Just build Footmen, Griffins, Priests...anything!!!
Ellaine: All right!
*Ellaine orders the Peasants to build the Barracks*

Ellaine: Happy?
winterfate: Hardly. You're still badly outnumbered by Exebar's forces.

Ellaine: What should I do?
winterfate: Sit tight...I can't believe I'm going to have to do this...
*sigh* *calls Jenova on her cellphone*

winterfate: Hello.
Jenova: Hello?

winterfate: Hi, it's winterfate, your favoritest fan!
Jenova: Oh yes...thanks for saving me from Axeoth!

winterfate: Any time! Um, could you please send out reinforcements?
Jenova: To where?

winterfate: Well, Miss Peasant Girl...
Ellaine: I am NOT a peasant Girl...
Jenova:*screaming so as to be heard* Well, you lead peasants...you double the income generated by them...you're a peasant girl.

Jenova: I assume Ellaine hasn't built up her town structures to train additional troops...
winterfate: Exactly.

Jenova: Put her on the line please...
winterfate: Sure...

Ellaine: Hello?
Jenova: Um, yes. Ellaine?

Ellaine: Yes?
Jenova: Could you please please PLEASE stop being so stupid?!?!

Ellaine: Huh?
Jenova: Exactly. You do realize Training changed right?

Ellaine: Ah-hah.
Jenova: Whatever...put winter back on the line please.

winterfate: Ah-hah.
Jenova: I'll get there as soon as possible. Do you have any troops?

winterfate: Well I've got a few Hunters and a treant.
Jenova: How many Hunters?

winterfate: *counts* Um, 11 regulars and 4 Masters.
Jenova: *coughs* Forget what I just said *casts Town Portal*.

winterfate: That was quick!
Jenova: Well, you're not holding off that army with 16 Sylvan units and an army of Peasants.
Ellaine: Well, actually....

winterfate: I'll be leaving now!
Jenova: No, you don't! Winter, as beholden as I am to you, you WILL fight alongside me! You will not wimp out.

winterfate: Very well...*muttering* how did I let myself get dragged into this mess?!
Jenova&Ellaine: Did you say something?
winterfate: No!

:D
There we go!!! Stay tuned for part two (tomorrow at the earliest...hopefully!)

Training Interview 2:

And now, for part 2 of my Training Interview:

A day has passed in Farbreach, as Ellaine, the peasant girl, Jenova, She Who Has Visited Three Worlds, and I have been preparing for Exebar's attack.

winterfate: Ellaine. Um, could I get your impressions on the Training Rules change?
Ellaine: No, you may NOT. You called me a peasant girl!

winterfate: *snorts* Let's go through this one MORE time. You LEAD peasants, right???
Ellaine: Yes...

winterfate: You double their income, RIGHT???
Ellaine: Yes...

winterfate: So then, what part of peasant girl doesn't apply to you?
Ellaine: Um...uh.

winterfate: I rest my case. Now, would you please answer the question? I have some Conscripts to train...
Ellaine: Alright. Um, I think it STINKS!

winterfate: Why?
Ellaine: Because I can't have my beloved 1000 Marksman Rush.

winterfate: Fair enough. That's why I prefer the Sylvan myself
Ellaine: Bah. Griffin eternal!

Jenova: Nay. The balance is more important than a stupid catch phrase.
Ellaine: Stupid? STUPID??

winterfate: Quit it you two! Aren't we supposed to be upgrading the Barracks to create Squires?
*Ellaine orders the Peasants to upgrade the Barracks*
Jenova: There we go! Now, winter, you're going to lead the Haven troops right?

winterfate: What makes you say that?!
Jenova: Well, *whispers* Ellaine has noodles for brains. I think you should lead the Haven troops.

winterfate: Yeah...all 200 Conscripts and 10 Squires...
Jenova: I'm serious. Or would you rather have the peasant girl lead them?
Ellaine: I heard that! I'm not a peasant girl!!

winterfate: I give up with her. Fine, let's beat that Exebar so I can get home...
Jenova: Agreed. Since when have you been in the reporting field, though?

winterfate: Well, this is my 3rd freelance interview.
Jenova: You don't work for anybody?

winterfate: Nope.
Jenova: Um...are you sure?

winterfate: Well, there's this guy, who runs the Round Table Weekly. Um, I landed on his list...
Jenova: Is that good or bad?

winterfate: Well, let's just say I should be home before Monday.
Jenova: Ouch.

winterfate: I'll be fine. You can come save me!
Jenova: Against the power of an expert reporter? We'll see. I doubt it though...

winterfate: :) We can talk later!
Jenova: Agreed! Are those Bone Dragons I see over the horizon?

winterfate: Aw *** ** * *****[censored for profanity]
Jenova: *slaps winterfate* You shouldn't be saying such foul language.

winterfate: Sorry...do you think we stand a chance?
Jenova: Um, have you bothered to look at my army? I brought Syris Thalla with me?

winterfate: Oh...where does that leave Syris Thalla then?
Jenova: Um...winter. What I just said was a figure of speech.

winterfate: Oh...:embarrased: Right...

*Exebar's forces arrive and the battle begins*

Exebar: Oh, hello, winterfate! What brings you here?
winterfate: The training rules...

Exebar: Oh. Why don't you just leave the peasant girl to...
Ellaine: I am...
Jenova: SHUT UP, Ellaine!

Exebar: Thank you, lass. Now, like I was saying, why don't you leave the peasant girl to me and go home?
winterfate: What fun is there in that? I have to stretch this out...

Exebar: hahaha. Very well then. Don't say I didn't warn you...

Exebar orders a full assault with his army, composed of 200 Skeleton Archers, 10 Arch Liches and 5 Wraiths.
Jenova's army has 50 Sprites, 30 Master Hunters, and 10 Treants.

The battle is a bloody affair I'd rather summarize. Needless to say, the few Haven troops I was leading got slaughtered in the first turn. Both remaining sides took severe losses, but Jenova inched out with the ever resilient Treants for the win.

Jenova: And that's the end of that, necromancer!
Exebar: Darn, I was so close! I HATE the Avenger skill!
*Exebar retreats in shame*

Jenova:
winterfate: Uff. Remind me never to do that again, Jenova.

Jenova: *giggles* So, winter, what will you do now?
winterfate: Well, I have to go back home. And, um...there's still Him.

Jenova: The RTW reporter.
winterfate: Yes.

Jenova: If you want I can...
winterfate: NOOO!!! It's only...

Jenova: Well, if you'd let me finish my sentence :disagree:. If you want I can go talk to him; what's his name?
winterfate: Kalah. But, um...

Jenova: What?
winterfate: I never did ask him for permission to write for the RTW...

Jenova: Oh...seems like someone is in trouble...
winterfate: Not TOO much, I hope smile.

Jenova: Good luck with that, winter! And, if you need help...
winterfate: I can call you?

Jenova: Anytime ;).
winterfate: Thanks. I should be getting home though. Tomorrow's going to be a heck of a day!

Jenova: Later!

So, with the Training Interview finally completed, I return home to take a break. A well deserved break :D

Until the next time, this is winterfate signing out! Take care!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There we go! All four interviews I have done until now.
As I said before, my next interview will be soon (Friday at the earliest).
Until then, this is winterfate signing out! Take care!

It is all an allusion to Sauron's fan fiction contest...that and I think Jenova is the coolest Rampart/Preserve hero :D.

You see, in that contest, I wrote a story about Jenova arriving at Ashan.

As for HOW I met her...you gave me a good idea for a future interview, Elvin! :D

It won't be this one though...as I already have a general idea of what I'm going to write about (I'll give a hint...Nival, beware ).

Woho!!! My 1000th post! On my birthday too!
Well, anyway, it's time for my newest interview...

Enjoy!

Greetings! Since today is my birthday, I’ve decided to do a special interview. Nival “should” be working on the next patch for Hammers of Fate (2.2). So, why don’t I pay Nival a visit to see what they are doing?

I arrive at the premises of Nival’s HQ at dawn, ready to force my way in through any means. The gate is electrified and guarded by 2 watchdogs.

Winterfate: *throws meat at the dogs* *casts Ice Bolt at the gate, knocking it down*
There we go! Simple as cake.

Nival Rep: What’s all that ruckus…who are you?!
Winterfate: Well, I’m…

Nival Rep: It matters not…you are trespassing in…
Winterfate: I just wanted…

Nival Rep: Would you stop…
Winterfate: Interrupting? I could say the same to you…

Nival Rep: What do you want?
Winterfate: Well, if you’d let me talk…

Nival Rep: Well, hurry up, I ain’t got all day…
Winterfate: I beg to differ…

Nival Rep: What?
Winterfate: The wind, sir, just the wind…

Nival Rep: Well?!
Winterfate: Oh, right…sorry. I came all the way to Nival HQ to see how the production of patch 2.2 for Hammers of Fate is coming along.

Nival Rep: And I should let you in because?
Winterfate: Today’s my birthday.

Nival Rep: And you think I care?
Winterfate: Hardly…but I know you care about these photos I got from a certain website…

Nival Rep: *stunned* Do you have any copies?
Winterfate: Well, no…AND I have the website I got them from written here on the back of THIS photo…

Nival Rep: Give them to me!
Winterfate: When…you let me in.

Nival Rep: Very well…
*grabs the photos and burns them* *writes down the website address for future reference* *grants me access into the HQ*
Winterfate: Thank you!

I enter Nival’s HQ.

Nival Rep: The first door to your left is the beta testing room.
Winterfate: Can I go in?

Nival Rep: No…
Winterfate: Um, are they playing Halo?

Nival Rep: That’s just an optical illusion…
*BOOM* *gunshots firing*
Winterfate: And I assume I’m just hearing things as well…

Nival Rep: Exactly…now let’s move on.
Winterfate: Whatever you say.

Nival Rep: This next door to your right is the programming section.
Winterfate: Hmm…they’re playing World of Warcraft?

Nival Rep: Of course not. You have quite an imagination, winterfate!
Winterfate: Thank you…but I’m positive they’re playing World of Warcraft…can I go in?

Nival Rep: No.
Winterfate: *grunts* ok...

Nival Rep: This last door on the left is my office…
Winterfate: Can I go in?

Nival Rep: No.
Winterfate: Three strikes! I’m going in, whether you like it or not! I need to see some progress on the patch!

Nival Rep: NO!! Don’t deactivate the screen-saver!
Winterfate: Too late!

Winterfate: Hmm…solitaire…solitaire?! You’re playing a stupid one-player card game instead of working on the patch?
Nival Rep: Um…

Winterfate: WHEN can I expect the patch?
Nival Rep: Soon.

Winterfate: WHEN someone starts working on it?
Nival Rep: People are working on it…

Winterfate: People are working all right…just not on the patch.
Nival Rep: What are you implying? That we don’t do anything constructive?

Winterfate: Hey, you said it, not me…
Nival Rep: I think you should leave, before I call security.

Winterfate: *yawn* I can almost be sure that they won’t come either…what are they playing?
Nival Rep: Security guards don’t play games…*calls security*

Security Guard: Yes?
Nival Rep: Yes. Could you…would you turn off that Nintendo DS?!?!

Winterfate: I knew it…
Nival Rep: Um, could you come escort…

Security Guard: Aw…I need to level up my Pikachu!
Nival Rep: Shut up!! You don’t get paid to play games!

Winterfate: Indeed. You do though!
Nival Rep: Exact…you almost got me there…that was shrewd.

Winterfate: I try my best. I’ll be leaving now.
Nival Rep: You’d better…so I can get back to my game of solitaire.

Winterfate: Did you say something?
Nival Rep: Just your…

Winterfate: Overactive imagination? I know, I know…

So, I guess we can expect the next HoF patch someday (not too soon, hopefully before the end of the decade ).

Until the next time, this is winterfate signing out! Thanks for your feedback!

only one problem with this... the whole talk must be translated in russian, because those f!*ckers *dosn't spik inglish* :-D
or at least add some *enought* in their answers...

and also you must make up a story on how you learnt russian in the first place... well, at least if you don't speak it already...

spik
Careful how you aim that word okrane :D (used another way, it's a racial slur against Hispanics).
and also you must make up a story on how you learnt russian in the first place... well, at least if you don't speak it already...
Um...one of life's little mysteries . There HAS to be someone there who knows English (I've been wrong before though :D).

Hello once again to all here present at the Round Table!

Most of the time, I go hunting for my interviews. Today, the interview found me.

At my home:

*KNOCK**KNOCK*

winterfate: Who's there?
Nival Rep: Me, you do remember me right?

winterfate: Oh, of course. Mr. Solitiare, do come in!
Nival Rep: *glares at me* Ok.

winterfate: What's up?
Nival Rep: I came to bring you information on patch 2.2 for Hammers of Fate. Ha-ha, and you thought all we did was play games...

winterfate: Well, it sure seemed that way...
Nival Rep: Here you go. Read it and respect our work...

winterfate: The respect part has yet to be seen. Hm...let's see:

Balance Changes:

Necromancy and Training rollback to the way they were before 2.1.
Gating can now only be used once per week, per hero...

winterfate: *COUGH* Um...why did you guys go BACK? And why did you guys nerf Gating?!
Nival Rep: It was a balance issue. People were complaining about the new Training and Necromancy rules. As for Gating, we had to make sure Demon Lords couldn't be powerful early-game.

winterfate: Um, I understand the first part. But, um, Demon Lords aren't THAT abusive early. You do realize that you can only gate a percentage of all total units in a particular stack?
Nival Rep: I knew I had forgotten something! *takes out a notebook titled Patch 2.3 and jots down something*

winterfate: What are you jotting down?
Nival Rep: Patch details...

winterfate: Let me keep reading this:

Unit Changes:

Liches are now 1x1
Treants are now 4x4
Black Dragons can now cast Ice Bolt.

winterfate: 8| What? This is ridiculous. Tell me you are pulling my leg, please!
Nival Rep: Not at all. Liches were too big. Treants were too small and Black Dragons needed to be able to cast spells.

winterfate: Why in the world do Black Dragons need to be able to cast spells? And how in blazes are you going to balance Treants now?
Nival Rep: Have you ever played Baldur's Gate? Dragons cast spells...

winterfate: Um...of course I have. But, what does THAT have to do with this...ugh...nevermind. Let me keep reading:

Interface Changes:

The cursor graphic is now a Treant.
Your resources now do not show up on the adventure map.
The options button has been removed. Please use the Escape button to access it.
Dark Energy will now be displayed in a Necromancer's stat screen.

winterfate: I feel sick! Are you joking? A treant cursor?!?! And what is with the other changes? Why the **** is DE going to display...if you don't need it anymore?
Nival Rep: Aw darn! *takes out notebook again, scribbles something down*

winterfate: I'm hoping you fix this...
Nival Rep: Sorry, the patch is already complete and...

winterfate: Complete...complete?! You call this complete? C'mon, a pack of lab rats could create something more balanced than this! Not to mention, all the things you are subtracting from the interface.
Nival Rep: Um...uh...

winterfate: Are you guys even going to fix Rune Magic?
Nival Rep: It has already been fixed...

winterfate: Yeah, as in it doesn't work anymore...
Nival Rep: *scribbles something else down in the notebook*

winterfate: Give me that notebook! *snatch*

Patch 2.3 changes:

Re-rollback training/necromancy.
Change cursor back to regular cursor.
Return interface back to way it was.
Fix Rune Magic...for real.
Rebalance units...

winterfate: Enough!! This is sick...you guys do this on purpose, don't you?
Nival Rep: No. We need to balance the elements and bugs get through even with thorough testing...

winterfate: Testing you guys seem to not do...
Nival Rep: I did my part. I brought the patch revision over so you could look at it...

winterfate: Please fix it...
Nival Rep: We will...when time allows...

winterfate: Ugh...whatever. Could you please leave? I'm going to throw up now.
Nival Rep: Whatever you say! Expect the next patch tomorrow!

winterfate: :ill: Ugh..I would hope not...
*distant cry of patching eternal is heard*

Have you ever played Baldur's Gate? Dragons cast spells...

Interface Changes:

The cursor graphic is now a Treant.
Your resources now do not show up on the adventure map.
The options button has been removed. Please use the Escape button to access it.

Patch 2.3 changes:

Re-rollback training/necromancy.
Change cursor back to regular cursor.
Return interface back to way it was.
Fix Rune Magic...for real.
Rebalance units...
*Snickers* :D

You know nothning about their hard work and about UBI influence. Nival shall ask for permission every time they wanna change something, and we should say thanks that we have patches every two months but no years.

Forget about Heroes 3, they sucks! I dont believe that Nival or something else will make new heroes 3 game sometime.
Somehow that made me smile! Three cheers for hard-working Nival! Bottoms up!
Btw what kind of vodka do they favour there winterfate? :devious:
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Wow, this was hysterical Winter. I had a bad day today, and this is the first time I smiled or laughed at something. I was crying from laughing so hard at some of those. Ellaine getting mad at the peasant girl comments and the Black Dragon casting Ice Bolt were my favorites.

Thank you, King Imp! ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed them. And I'm especially glad that the interviews lifted your spirits too! ;)

That was something I could never find out...they hide their vodka well.
I could hear them drinking behind my back, but when I turned around...nothing. :D

Bah, Vodka is weak. Try homemade moonshine. That stuff has a kick... :). Hey Winterfate, since you are doing Interviews, interview Freyda about Duncan. :p

You might want to call your column different than Kalah's, but it's a good one.

Thanks Thelonious!

Good idea Mytical! That'll be the next interview I do. I don't know exactly when I'll do it, since I'll be busy with homework and tests this week...but it'll be ASAP. :D

Interview Ideas:

1. Freyda and Duncan
2. How I met Jenova

I wonder if I should leave that 2nd interview idea in the realm of speculation and let people think about how I met her? :)
