I cannot play h4 as I should anymore. My mind wonders around h5 features.... I hope the zoom factor will be fine, it is esential for a good overview in shortest of time.

"They kept the concept of heroes on the battle field and involved in the combat, something I remember JVC wanting to remove"

this is something other reports dont mention...

The confusion is due to the fact that the Haven hero has a special ability that allows him to hit an opponent. But it's something other heroes might not be able to do. So no, heroes are not involved in combat the way they were in Heroes IV.

Mullich:

"For Heroes V, the heroes have been moved back off the battlefield and no longer participate in combat other than to cast spells."

Heroes on, Heroes off! Which is it? I was hoping that in Heroes V, the heroes would have a bigger role on the battlefield than just casting spells like they did in Heroes III, but maybe not as all powerful as they were in Heroes IV. A in-between balance would be ideal.

An in-between balance, I think that's exactly what we are going to get. Might heroes will not be a regular unit on the battlefield, but will be able to attack other units with a special ability. There was something similar in Etherlords.

Not in Etherlords 1 at least Angelspit. All damage and attacks were made by "creatures" or direct damage spells. Changed this in Ehterlords 2?.

However I agree with you. According to what we've already read combat will be very similar to H3 but heroes will have some special "attacks" or ways to participate in battle, though they won't be hurted in any way.

Fabrice was very clear that the only way to defeat a hero was to defeat the entire army he was leading. They can't be hurt or targetted directly.

Whatever the case, this definitely sounds like something to look forward to. David Mullich's review answered many questions but created many more. I think this is the first direct game experience, I'm really excited about what I'm hearing.

I do hope they give us a good view of the adventure map.

Regarding Might Heroes, did you notice that Might has a section in the spellbook? That might cover the special abilities.

Obviously, playing a small map for a shorter time of gameplay will be key element in HoMM5.

HoMM5 pretty much meets my own wishes for a renewed HoMM franchise. Plus, the new approach that calls for: Not explored enough map, can't see much of it and conquering a much farther town/city with evidently unlock the ability to zoom out even further and, the more towns conquered, more map overview will be revealed to that specific player only. To the other players, tough luck, were too slow at exploration, economy, army buildup and other town conquests.
