Naming them, that's easy to find in Google their pics, so I won't go for them. It's possible finding some of these not so stupid.

Saci-pererê - this one is an one-legged black guy with a red cap, smoking a pipe. He moves inside whirlwinds and do practical jokes with people, and they have some powers. If you steal their cap, you can keep them under your control. It's somewhat silly for a game, but there it is.

Iara - a very beautiful woman who draw men to the bottom of the rivers, showing her real appearance. It's almost like a mermaid.

Mula-sem-cabeça - a headless horse, where flames erupts from the multilated neck. It's been told that it was once a lady who kept feeding from the dead to stay immortal, from child flesh. If she was ever seen, she would be turned into a beast. It's a cursed creature, wandering about cemiteries for all eternity.

Curupira - a small kind of goblin with feets turned backwards, green skin and flames for hair. It's a foe. I don't recall its history though.

Well, Puerto Rico has the Chupacabras (Goatsucker...weird name I know... it's because they suck blood from livestock).

Here's a thread so you can see one:

That, and a description that explains it better than I can ;) .

If the pics are genuine it looks strange indeed. Who knows ;)

Edit:
Some interesting theories:

The first sight of the chupacabras in Mexico was 5 days after the biggest devaluation of the Mexican currency, so many people consider it a product of the government to divert mass media from the real economic problems that Mexico was experiencing. 8|

Some cryptozoologists speculate that chupacabras are alien creatures.Others speculate that the creature is an escaped pet of alien visitors that wandered off while its master was visiting Earth. :loll:

Some people in the island of Puerto Rico believe that the chupacabras were a genetic experiment from some United States' government agency, which escaped :S

Aaand...An alternative explanation is that the creatures are not real at all, and the sightings are either a product of superstition and imagination.

Chupa-cabras became somewhat like a legend in Brazil, when livestock started appearing dead on the Northern states of Pará and Amazonas. It was even told that it was an alien, because no one was able to chase it or find it out what it was.

People ended out believing it was wild dogs just killing animals that died after bleeding a lot. It hasn't been happening those odd deaths for years now. ;|

Maybe they were aliens. :devious:

Hedge Sheep is adorable.

FYI - the Jackalope is a very old USA sideshow freek. Of course, they don't do well in captivity, so you could only see stuffed ones or pictures of them on post cards, that sort of thing. Taxidermy supply companies even sell mounts for them!

The Native Americans (or some of them) includes a lot of creatures in their supernatural tales. Common animals were given certain traits as a way of understanding the world arround them.

The Wolf was cunning and wise, seeking the truth and guiding those who sought the truth.

The bear was a powerful and wise hunter who guided those who sought strength along with wisdom.

The fox was a cunning trickster, and would often assume another form to trick the unweary.

There is many more and each of the spirit versions of these animals had abilities and powers that were unusual. So since I am mostly (3/8ths but more then any other individual bloodline) Native American those would be creatures from my culture :).
Warning, may cause confusion, blindness, raising of eybrows, and insanity. Image
