The presence of the Death Knights is something to be applauded heartily. I was disheartened to see them absent from the Necropolis town, so it is very good that at least they made it in as neutral creatures.

Of course ArchDevils were present in Heroes III, and they were trying to go for the 'duality,' so yes they are just there to be opposite of archangel and yes it sounds ridiculous. I always liked Alagar. His Ice Bolt and Sorcery are handy for keeping your casualties to a minimum in the opening stages of the game. Though I have to agree that Ulland's advanced wisdom does have its uses.
