I voted middle of the road. They're only useful as a summoned creature to impart fortune on one of your more important stacks. Plus they can use up an enemy's retaliation. Viewing them as stand alone creatures they're not good.

Is there any difference at all between these two level 3 spells?

I don't think there are any extra maps for Heroes I. The game doesn't have a map editor, so no extra maps can come with it, yes?
