It does apply just to a lesser extent. So why are there no birds bigger than 25kg? Earth has an even higher density than water. Consequently creatures tunneling through the earth should be practically immune to the square-cube law because earth would be even more buoyant than water. Yep, although t...

Most insects fly in the former fashion, most birds fly in the latter fashion. Flying in the latter fashion requires larger wings, which is why insects often have such small wings but yet can fly. Insects also get a lot of help from the Square-Cube law because they're so small. The square-cube-law d...

Jumbo jets weigh far, far more than that and they can still fly. I don't quite get what you mean. Yeah with 4 turbojet engines. If they lose power they certainly can't maintain their altitude. I fail to see any ginormous wings, the kind of wings that the heaviest birds around would presumably need ...

So why not just bury the portal if it's going to be that much of a danger, or build a stone-fronted rampart around it (or a double rampart even with offset gates)?

Not at all, unfolded the wings are actually pretty broad and definately enough to carry the creature through the air if it had the neccesary avian adaptations (muscles, fast lungs and hollow bones). Chickens can actually fly and they have smaller wings and even less aerodynamic bodies than the grif...

So what happens if the defender sits catapults in a pit below ground level? They're still rising when they go through the portal, that's what.

The only armour the blood fury should have *is* their leg-armour (and the hosiery that it's worn on). The reason is that for a unit like that leg armour is actually the only form of armour that there is any point in wearing, because if you're injured in the legs then you movement is impaired and th...

Meh 'Japanese' stuff is cool, but clichéd, 'Indian' stuff is just as cool (Bagh Nakh, Chakram and Urumi in particular), and not yet very clichéd.

Re: Nimbyism in HOMM (portal placement woes)

Asking why are towns built near magical portals is a bit like asking why a towns built near roads. Except that you can see who's coming up the road, whereas you can't see who's coming through a portal most of the time, until they do, and if it's an invading army, then you're probably not going to h...

There are far too many beastmen in the world in Heroes VI a mere 50 years later, that's why we know the beastmen story is BS. Along with the fact that the wizards apparantly managed the whole feat in a year and haven't demonstrated the ability since. Yeah, well, maybe after the Orcs rebelled, and t...

Here and there, but it's difficult sometimes, because how do you give back a piece of land claimed by 4 different tribes?

I think sequels always need to have big changes in them. Especially if its after number 3. Wow, so Rowling should suddenly have made Voldemort a good-guy? We can't be playing the same game with improved graphics and some minor changes. I'm also sometimes opposed to a change (old school in heart) bu...

No, moors was a word the spanish used for most "brown" people... No, it comes from the Latin Maurus (plural Mauri ), which describes the people of the province of Mauretania, with the province being named after the dominant local tribe, the Mauri . And don't forget about institutionalized...

Well, the upgrade ability she has is called "Eyes of the Medusa" so she OBVIOUSLY is a Medusa apart from the small fact that she has living snakes growing out of her head. Oh, and her lower body is also a snake tail. The snake hair thing goes along with the myth, but Medusa had a death ga...
