At least he died in peace at age 69. Though I never met him, he gave me untold hours of great pleasure and led me to meet some of finest people I know. Requiescat, Gary.

Since this is now the 'Sports' thread, does anyone want to talk March Madness? My Texas Longhorns are looking as good as they ever have, even without Kevin Durant, and I'm really excited about this year's tournament.

What I'm saying is that the digital marketplace is fundamentally different than the traditional retail store, mainly because the marginal cost of the goods is low and tending to zero. Ethical considerations aside, 'piracy' is part of the deal and vendors need to accept that and deal with it. Can you...

Back to Lost: Why are the Oceanic 6 so famous? Where did Kate get the money for that nice house in LA? It's got to be more than just for escaping the Island. That gets you an appearance on Oprah, not a house in LA. One theory is that Dharma was fooling around with the timeline, trying to make the wo...

There's an article in Wired this month that argues that everything on the internet eventually becomes free. The successful companies are those that recognize this and find other ways to profit. (Eg. Yahoo's free, unlimited email.) The classic example is Gillette, who gave away razors so he could sel...

Claire's separation from Aaron may have to do with the deaths of the other women who were pregnant on the island. Perhaps she is unable to leave, but wanted Aaron to live in the 'real' world. Sun will have a similar choice. I believe the 4 rescuers are children of the Dharma personnel. Did you catch...

Clearly there is some time differential between the Island and the outside. The 'copter takes over a day to make it back to the ship, while the payload was only 41 minutes off. At Kate's trial, Jack said there were only 6 survivors, plus two casualties that washed up. Ergo the Six are hiding the exi...

Thank the stars we will not have to listen to that "greatest team ever" crap for another year. The Pats aren't even the best 18-1 team ever -- they don't even compare to the '84 Niners and the '85 Bears, teams that won the big one.

I read a very interesting theory regarding Jacob that makes so much sense. Jacob is a manifestation of who ever he needs to be. I think Jacob has appeared as Walt, Eko’s brother, Kate’s horse, Sawyer’s cat, Locke’s father and even Ben’s mother. It would appear that Jacob tends to manifest as pieces...

Well, Lost is back and there's lots going on. First question is who are the Oceanic Six? Jack, Kate, Hurley, whoever died, probably Sawyer, and ??? And why only six?

Because St. Peter was on a break, Jesus had to receive an old man at the pearly gates and upon seeing him, Jesus asks, "What is your name?" "I'm so old, I don't remember" "So, where are you from?" "I'm sorry, but I don't remember that either" “I’m sorry, too, ...

Charlie Wilson's War was terrific. Great script and Hanks at his best.

Tomorrow: Cloverfield!

UPDATE: Cloverfield was fun. Like Blair Witch meets Godzilla.

As usual, I'm with Jeff on this. The horrid editor has meant a paucity of good maps. My deepest admiration goes to GOW and a few others who persevered and made really good ones. But these are only a handful and it seems that the better the map, the more performance suffers. And of course everything ...

Love it. When I'm in London, I'll go to the bucket drop at Leicester Square every day and get a cheap seat to a matinee. Most of Broadway is crap, but you'll find some good stuff off. Most community 'little' theatre here is horrible. Did some acting myself, back in the day.
