What difficulty do you use in single-player? (H3)

Idle thought...what difficulty do you use in H3 when playing against the AI?
[i.e. no multiplayer]

I myself typically use Impossible, tho if the starting conditions are hard
(i.e. few loose gold and resources) I'll give myself 5000 gold and 2 of each
resource and then start on Impossible.

Royal Griffins aren't nearly cost-effective as Marksmen (someone did the
math once somewhere). Sure you need them to "bust" shooter guardians,
but other than the retaliation special they aren't that hot, and tend to
suffer from high attrition if you aren't careful.

There's some sort of bug involving AI-only battles (SOD) where an attacker in a siege will lose all troops but still win (perhaps because of summoned elementals), will get to sit in the castle door but the color is still that of the enemy. Oddly while he is in the town he can't be attacked and taken...

The music in H2 is so superior it's no contest. In many other (but not all) aesthetic terms H2 has H3 beat. But there were so many irritating gameplay flaws in H2 that H3 fixed that I had to go with the latter. For example Champions in H2 were virtually worthless on turn one because they couldn't wa...

All I know is, after I got burned on H4 after I bought it on the day it came out, I ain't going to be buying this one until I see good reviews (by the pros as well as informed fans here). You couldn't imagine my disappointment the moment I realized the AI was broken, when I walked into enemy territo...

Someone was doing some tests with leveling up over at the Heroes Library of Enlightenment... [But alas they banned me for no discernable reason so I can't access the site to get the linky 8| ] Anyway, in most games (including mine vs. the AI) DD, TP and Fly are all banned. Like I intimated it all de...

One possible weakness of the Might heroes (talking about H3) is that it is hard to get them the spell schools you want. It seems like a 50/50 crap- shoot as to whether I'll be able to get both Water and Earth when I start with a Knight (my preferred schools), while a Cleric is virtually guaranteed t...

Impossible for me to vote... H4 is potentially the better game, but it all never quite came together. Lord I love the skill system (aside from the issues surrounding the Combat skill) and the magic system is almost as good. I dislike the endgame in H3 where most heroes are indistinguishable from eac...

Because random maps tend to be very unbalanced and (in the case of H3 at least) rather Monty-Haulish? Now some players know how to get various random templates (codes which will always give you the same random map), but given the maps available here, at Bytebandit's, Maphaven, and elsewhere, I can g...

Heroes, Skills and Abilities, Oh My!

I like the limited specialties-my chance of buying this just increased to

about 20%. But they kept the Learning skill without any changes from H3?

As a diehard wargamer, I liked FOW. The "hunt the little peeps" issue would fade if factions surrendered once their army/hero strength dropped below a certain point (either on a player-by-player basis or overall, like in Warlords). Since my chance of buying H5, given other info, currently ...

My thinking on Resurrection is that it is good in the early mid-game (when either Alamar or Jeddite are up to Adv/Exp Earth), but sooner or later most heroes will be able to find it somewhere. Certainly for limiting attrition they are useful, but it all depends on whether you would have had Resurrec...

On the old forum there was a big thread on this. My opinion was that you could rank the specialties into groups as follows (best at top, worst at bottom): Logistics specialists Offense Armorer Necromancy (with undead armies) Archery (with certain armies) Prayer Haste Bless Stoneskin Bloodlust Weakne...

I went through a brief flurry of H4 playing about 3 months ago, and haven't played it since, so I'm on your side. (Same for AoW) My main issue is that Corribus thinks playing it safe is the wise move from a business standpoint, while I think that is actually the risky move. I mean to be successful H...

[Responding to Corribus' last comment] Then delusional I am then. A quote from George Bernard Shaw comes to mind: "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."...

[Haven't logged in in a few days and look what I find!] While going the "safe" route with H5 may in a strict sense be the best business decision, in a broader view it becomes a "tragedy of the commons" situation when viewed in terms of an already-sterile and derivative marketplac...

What the hey is a ".ppt" file? [Search] A Powerpoint file? Why not just a simple Adobe file? I too am worried about less time and effort able to be devoted to gameplay design and implementation. This "wall" may remain a roadblock to more in-depth and innovative designs until some...
