In base merge you can only put main character to Adventurer's Inn, but not dismiss him forever, try to do following: open debug console with ctrl+f1, type "HireCharacter(0)" without quotes and press ctrl+enter to execute. It should hire main character back into party, if you have at least...

For MM8 you have to add 'FixChests=1' into mm8.ini (default seems to be 0). Can't tell if this the same for MM6/MM7. 1) I had to install patch 2.5.7 on top of merge & revamp, despite it is mentioned, that it should be included (the game didn't run in High-Res, first after installing the patch it did) Installation instruction contains an answer. If you need more in-depth - Windows sets up wrong compat settings...

Regarding skill issues, errors are caused for less than GM skill levels due to format of data, engine uses to store skills. I did not have opportunity to fix it yet. Next version will still have this bug, unfortunately. Best solution would be to use skill storage rework from Revamp branch, probably...
