Probably the most important buff Blasters could receive is making the Hive Core immune to anything that isn't a Blaster (as it should be).

I don't have an exhaustive list of what sounds work and what sounds don't, but in general the MM6 and MM7 characters will be missing a lot of their sound events simply due to the engine change. In fairness, you can completely customize the racial skills by modifying Race Skills.txt - at one point I gave dwarves all the armor skills.

Skills are still restricted by class. Knights don't get Regeneration so a Troll Knight will have no meaningful Regeneration.

sounds like your install is corrupt (this problem happened to me and several others).
Reinstall Might and Magic 8 to a new folder, then install the Merge onto that folder, then test the game before trying to further update the game with patches.

certain skills were moved to different locations, to account for MM7/8 not having "general skill" guilds.
