In Echo's mod the genie was just cosmetic -- not an actual race.
Thanks for doing this! I loved her re-tex jobs for MM7, and have lamented their loss for MM8/Merge.

I have made Echo's Monstrosity compatible with Rodril's MM678 merge. . The Merge Compatible version of Echo's Modling on the Nexus is missing some water textures for MM6 and MM7. Also, if you want a more challenging MM8, try Echo's Modling. If you want a more challenging MM7, stay tuned for mine -- coming soon. More monsters, tougher monsters, and in more locations (with more rewards for your trouble).

It honestly does require a change in mindset. As long as you play with the idea of exploiting every angle, you'll succeed in doing so. I prefer to play with a mindset of self sufficiency. I finished all the areas, and started testing on MM7. Early on, I tested one of my maps within the Merge. I discovered that all of the names for the MM7 items and creatures were changed when brought into the merge. That meant an instant crash when loading one of my maps made within vanilla MM7. So, ...
