download and compile binary editor. http://bedlinux.tripod.com/, open the LOD with it (run it from terminal with filename of LOD as a parameter) and rename all entries in table of contents.

I guess it's because in executable the file name is written Zmainmen.pcx and in lod it's ZMAINMEN.pcx. Try renaming the files so that their names are written in the same case.

Seems like it crashed while calculating the value that has to be written to registry. Check if registry entries are in your registry and if not, create them manually.

you can edit zcrtrait.txt file or change the cost using erm. IIRC it is controlled by the same command that controls other properties of creatures

PAL: No idea. You'll have to find that out yourself. There's only one of these in the archive.

judging from extension it seems that this is pallete file (there was a bunch of those in MM games and few in HoMM III)

there should be folder with files with extensions *.vid on the CD. check if these exist in <gamedirectory>/vids, and if they don't, copy them there
