Haha we made their mods incompetable with the 1.2 patch
Don't blame Nival. It's the way the Heroes resource system works, and it's what allows the mods to run to begin with. Patches are themselves installed in the same fashion as mods, and newer files override older ones. It's simple.

In my case, I didn't circumvent any "technical protection" measures (as if "they" are helpless and need protection... never mind). Let's see: I copied a DVD that was not protected in the first place, for backup purposes. If this is circumvention, then I hereby copyright this text...

Ummm, just noticed there was a whole lot of discussion about making illegal copies and circumventing copy protection here... Hey, wait. Under the US Copyright Act, it is perfectly legal to make copies for personal archival purposes, and that's what I did. And since there was no copy protection to b...

Farewell SecuROM, We Hardly Knew Ye

I'll try looking if the English version is still available for download somewhere on our LAN, but seeing how the 1.0 EXE file from the English version worked with the Russian one, I think there should be no problem.

Farewell SecuROM, We Hardly Know Ye

The battle of sane humanity against Digital Restrictions Management seems to have come to a full, small though it may be, victory on the Heroes V front. With StarForce g...

"Got linked"? What do you mean? And what the heck does SecuROM protect against if you can copy files from one disk to another without preserving the structure and it will still work?

One more undocumented 1.2 feature (or was it 1.1?): the game now doesn't crash under Linux/Cedega after loading a map. Also, SecuROM has apparently been removed, although the CD check persists.

Dark Messiah Delayed

I agree with previous posters, if they use the delay to fix bugs and test the game, it does both them and us more good in the longer run.

Ubisoft's Revenues Jump

For a HOMM game, I think it's a good result. At least judging by the different level of hype around HOMM games and mainstream titles like Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft etc.

I too find single player "satisfying". It doesn't blow me away. I don't play MP over the web - just hotseat. My observation there is that you need a low difficulty setting to avoid being rushed by a cheating AI player.
The AI doesn't cheat anymore in 1.2, does it?

SecuROM removed or wasn't there to begin with?

Well, as of 1.2, Heroes V still needs the disk. However, there appears to be absolutely no copy protection involved. For maximum guarantee, I copied the files from the Russian DVD and burned them to a DVD-RW using K3b (setting the label to "H5DVD"). To my surprise, the game (when launched ...

Attention

The existence of this thread is a mistake: I accidentally posted a poll as a news entry, which accounts for the awkward formatting. I deleted the news entry, but the thread remained. Please delete it as well.

Hopefully the real Cheat Codes will be implemented when the Map Editor is released. I can't imagine map makers not having Cheat Codes to test their maps. Hope springs eternal! The scripts (@Functions) remain; while they reportedly only work in singleplayer, for [every cheat, there is a scripting re...
