I'm playing through SoD right now, and I'm starting to get bored. It's always blitz or die at the default difficulty. If I wanted a rush game, I'd play an RTS. And more or less starting with Sandro's maps, the playtesting is severely lacking. For example, there is one Sage that asks for 16 Halberdie...

Rise of the Necromancer → Finneas Vilmar
Every time I played, Green had Sephinroth, who could apparently cast Fly. Due to the layout of the map, unless you can do the same or at least cast Dimension Door (and I don't believe Fly is available), it can get very, very, irritating as she can fly anywhere on the map to whichever of your castles...

Elwin and Shaera → True Love
There are some _very_ nice artifacts on this map for the hero (less so for troops), including armor that grants the hero regeneration. If you start out fast and make only very minor stops (e.g., to liberate mines), you can take all the enemy towns with minimal resistance, using only your hero. Then,...

Elwin and Shaera → The Lovers
I think one of the keys to having a relatively easy time on this map is to be careful not to lose troops in the early game. Do not fight unnecessary battles, and try to protect your troops with an excess of summoning magic to make enemy charges turn back to kill summoned sprites, or enemy ranged att...

The True Blade → The Drawing of the Blade
Hi HodgePodge, I didn't defeat Normic after 2 months, I only cleared the map. Normic can't fight me unless I go through the border guard and go to him, so once all Red and Teal cities are defeated, the map is safe to explore. I walked the entire map to make sure I picked up all permanent bonuses, vi...

Rise of the Necromancer → Master
An irritating map because the new device to challenge you is a LOT of event-triggered monsters (that don't trigger for the AI). An early event had THREE GREEN DRAGONS. That, and cheesy teleporters, as well as monsters set at the dungeon-side exits of dungeon mouths (this is a cheat because the AI ca...

The True Blade → The Rightful Heir
If your heroes have very strong Life Magic, they can take out monster stacks on the map by their own -- that is, just a lone hero, no support. In such cases, since the stacks are strong, if you take along troops, you'll just end up losing them. Cash is short at the start, so buying troops diminishes...

Haven: Pikemen win over Ballistas if you are going to take one of them along in your army, AND you can cast Resurrection. You cannot resurrect ballistas. If you are NOT going to take them but leave them in the castle on defense, then definitely take the ballistas. You can move them around with Carav...

The True Blade → The First Step of Many
I recommend blitzing from the get-go. The previous scenario should have convinced you that your four heroes in a single party, without any supporting troops, can kill an insane amount of enemies, even with Quick Combat. Split apart your starting army into one stack of Champions, one of Crusaders, an...

I know about the actual quests to finish the map. It's just... so inflated. I went up to Normic with 1500 squires and about 1200 archers, 110 Champions... And this for a first map? Is this a normal result for playing this map?? Where's the cheat code for unlimited movement so I can clean up the ques...

You can blitzkreig if you have Diplomacy. I picked up two strong armies that way (including a stack of 16 Zealots!) and from there the map was all but won. Once in town, I concentrated to getting Genies and Magi, selling resources if necessary. While the enemy lightning bolted my goblins and wolf ri...

Rise of the Necromancer → Target
If you've just finished Yog's maps, then this start to Sandro will be insanely boring. Like Yog, it's all about blitzkreig. You can capture the nearest two towns (dungeon and rampart) in about 2 weeks as long as your forces survive the first couple of fights, as afterwards you'll have a stack of wig...
