Why do they get japanese names when upgraded? I will argue against this: 1. they have "normal" names when unupgraded. normal meaning that their names are in english and you can see in their name exactly what they are. "shark guard" is more along the lines of "halberdier"...

Probably because garrisons are rarely used. And besides, there are some maps with predefined garrisons which are there just to slow down the enemy and certainly not to get you more troops.
