There's one big difference that you guys aren't discussing-everybody has Tactics now (well some heroes have one more row of pre-battle squares to use that is). In previous games your slow guardian walkers may, or may not, have a chance to move into blocking position before the fast enemy units get t...

Another long time player dropping by. In the main, despite some regressive (abandoned) features, it was a qualified success. The skill system has a lot of meat to it, plenty of valid ways to build a hero. Magic system not so much, as like the previous iterations it just boils down to a few useful sp...

Preference for big maps or not (I personally like them but that's beside the point here), the real issue at hand is that Ubi never really optimized the game system for such huge maps. Not only do they tend to be unstable, crashing a lot and rendering saved games unloadable (or unsaveable!), but the ...

The Great Canyon just got uploaded here. I got it off that Russian site a couple of months ago, so I don't know if this has been updated or not. In the one I played. there are huge imbalances between where the various factions are located on the map. Some will be in an isolated corner and can build...

"Stealth" surrendering? News to me...

Someone alluded to this odd alleged "feature" in the following thread: http://www.celestialheavens.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8448 Basically the supposition is that, when an AI hero "retreats" in H2/H3 (not sure about H4), he actually gets to keep his army (at the moment of the &...

I've been playing Heroes for 10+ years and this is the first time anybody has described such a bug/feature ("stealth" surrendering). I've never noticed it in either H2 or H3 over hundreds of games, and frankly I wonder what stuff you guys are smoking. Unless this is an April 1st whoosh of ...

For my leisure, i checked all the H3 XL size maps hosted here since 2002 and found it hard to believe that there are almost no real multiplayer maps. Some people have made nice maps, some look cheap, some know how to make good campaign maps, but non of them had made any decent map, that stands the ...

Which town has the best graphics?

I have heterofore been a gamer who has focused on strategy, but I must admit than when I finally broke down and got this game that the graphics did impress me. Yeah it's the gameplay which will either keep me coming back or eventually bore me, but the devs certainly did a good, creative job. My vote...

"Victim", eh? Thanks for the link. So far the map editor is a completely Byzantine creation (has to be I guess to allow for true 3D terrain), but I figured those AI types might be lurking in there (unlike H3 there's no information on them in-game, in the Thieves' Guild).

Are the AIs all "Warriors"?

Because man they don't mess around and come right for your throat. I am of course referring to the 3 AI types found in Heroes3, but even then the "Warrior" AI there wasn't a 1/3rd as aggressive as this one is. I was playing one map (a default scenario, on Hard) which was a 3 way FFA, with ...

That line I was referencing apparently includes income from City Halls as well-sorry about that. Still a bug tho because I was getting an extra 5,000 a turn. Loaded it up last night tho and the bug has mysteriously vanished! Now getting just 6,000 a turn (built CH in 3rd town) and not the 10,000 it ...

Of course I have. I was referring to the gold income screen you get if you click on your gold amount, which lists income from all the various sources. It says "Town Hall 10,000" when it should be 3,000.

Town Hall gold bug?

I finally broke down and got this. For now I just have one observation. In a 3 player FFA map (Great Confrontations, other two players AI Hard) from the default game (TOTE), I captured a third town, and , after buying Town Halls in all 3 towns, it shows income from Town Halls as being "10,000&q...

I took about a 4 month vacation from the series over the summer (burnout and all), so this is the first time I've read this thread in depth. For a battlegamer like myself (via my wargaming background), and not a storygamer like QQD, the game in the end analysis just didn't quite merit repeated play....

I haven't played a RPG since the Bard's Tale 2; I guess I have high expectations for something which calls itself "Role-playing" which to me isn't stat twiggling and endless monster bashing. In a weak moment I did buy Titan Quest, partly because I knew a buddy of mine would like it, playin...

I don't believe that the decision to replace the Forge with the Conflux directly contributed to the downfall, but I believe it was a factor. Mainly because it seemed to be the first of many badly rushed, imbalanced expansions/products for the Might and Magic line. It's almost as though, in the fren...

Hello QQD! I fondly remember your map reviews on the .strategic newsgroup a decade ago (whatever happened to your colleague Sebastian anyway?).

I know you didn't want hints or anything but have you tried to train up a thief character yet? And what are your thoughts on the advanced classes?
