Elixir of Life → Graduation Exercise
I have, in the past, completely skipped over the rampart towns. You can reach the stronghold in the first week, and should have enough sharpshooters to take it. This tactic wins faster for me than anything involving the ramparts.

I have HOMM3 complete, and do some mapmaking. In the game campaigns there are several levels (eg. oblivion's edge) where you need to keep several heroes alive and can lose in another way (eg. time expires).
