The difference between intrusive and non-intrusive graphics

Why does it seem like every HoMM release is even more massive and bloated than it's predecessor? For a game that is supposed to focus on analytical strategy, HoMM V puts way too much emphasis on showering eye candy on player's face. Example of intrusive graphics: the town fly-by camera view. Nothing...

- Incredible! So this is how it looks when you play the game seriously. How long did it take to flag all that stuff? I usually just concentrate all of my troops on one hero. Definitely gave me some inspiration.

The H4 Haven creatures all look gay. I wonder if it's the color. The fake plastic 3D looks horrible too. Back in the day when 3D was new I prefered good old sprites. Took a long while imho for 3D to catch up to 2D when it comes to drawing styles. This is why I hate pretty much all H4 creatures when...

Of course it's going to be Tazar. Creature specialists are just so crap. We had a thread a while ago which came to conclusion that the creature special doesn't increase attack and defense skills for each level attained, but one or the other in seemingly random fashion. Then if the other guy has some...

I don't understand what there is to compare. They all look the same stereotypical, racially hygienic perfect models of our age. Plastic surgery is today. In 30-40 years we'll be genetically breeding these people in laboratories. Personality, anyone? Creativity? What kind of voice they have? Still pi...

Newer operating systems are never good. :disagree:

You might want to try using compatibility mode or emulator that runs older OS's. There's one for DOS called DOSbox. I'm not sure about WinXP.

I don't understand Ballista specialists. So what if it does big damage on later levels, with 250 health ballista is the first thing getting destroyed if enemy hero has that specialty. On top of that the hero needs to trudge back to town which sells another one. Logistics and Armorer specialists are ...

Interested in math?

Hey, I'm wondering how the damage is calculated in Heroes games. How much will +1 attack or +1 defense affect outcome of battle, if armies are equal? Most important stats seem to be damage and health, as when you have 20 attack and 20 defense on hero, those gnolls getting +3 and +5 on top of that ma...

Congratulations!

I've never finished anything except maybe the first half of scenarios. I *hate* timed campaigns in RoE. Shadow of Death campaigns are more fun, as you can choose difficulty level. I play my games on normal and usually win them quite easily.

I was wondering, since if I ever start playing Myth and Legend, I'd want to have the best town. Actually Inferno is a bit underrated. If there's many Inferno towns on map, the faction becomes ridiculous with Castle Gate. It costs no movement points to warp between other Inferno towns and you can hav...

Heroes III: how would you rank the towns?

Is there such thing as best town for map size, like in Heroes II? Or can weaknesses of every town be overcome with proper secondary skill choices and skillful playing?

Devils' special is only good to reduce the positive luck that the enemy had through events/artifacts/Luck skill. - Exactly, which makes it weaker than intended. Fountain of Fortune can also change positive luck into "bad luck", but you can never have unlucky attacks. Compare this to Ghost...

What are the balance issues? If memory serves me correctly, Heroes II manual actually said that the Warlock, Wizard and Necropolis castles were meant for large maps and rest of the factions had intentionally easier building dependencies to favor aggressive expansion and smaller map dominance. I don'...

This patch is good because the changes are moderate, unlike that WoG thing. *sigh*
Hey, have you tested if that Learning secondary skill works properly? I took it for my main hero, but didn't notice as substantial difference as documented.

I have trouble getting useful advice out of those guides

These guides . When selecting skills for your hero, what order would you put these: "really good skill to have" "nice skill to have" "decent skill" "solid pick for any hero" "get this skill" "great skill for some situations" I know some pl...

Heroes 3: List your buying priorities (units)

Cash is hard to come by in Heroes III and income from one town alone (28K/week) isn't enough to buy one week's worth of upgraded creatures. I usually need 2-3 castles to feel comfortable. Anyway, what do you guys priorize when buying troops when you're strapped for cash? Is one Archangel always bett...

I think usefulness of creature specialists depend heavily on circumstances. Galtran is an example of hero which gives actual benefit, because skeletons are cornerstone of every Necropolis army. Even then if you don't leave zombies at home, you will gain no benefit to travel distance. On the other ha...
