Well, I would have to wait 'till the Winter sale at this point.

The game's worth playing through once with the campaigns at least?

Is development for HoMM 6 finished?

Dyeing the steam sale at the moment, a bit skeptical of the "Complete Edition."

Is Shades of Darkness the last DLC/X-Pack/Whatever? Or is there more coming down the road?

Well, the way he describes I think it goes like this: There are 3 "Core" units, 3 "Elite" units, and 1 Champion unit per castle. The Core units are comparable to each other in strength, and the elite units are comparable to each other in strength. In effect, that means we have 3 ...

So, wait, does this means the era of dumping tier 1 units is over? I am guessing "Core" units will be most efficient at fighting, "Elite" units will be defined by special abilities more than raw power, while "Champion" be the the super unit.

Heh, about Dungeon diversity issue, I've actually read what one of the Heroes 5 developers said about the Dungeon situation. The HoMM 5 team felt that dungeon design was problematic because they believed it didn't really have a theme. Previous Dungeon incarnations, to them, were "a collection o...

Dunno. This will really just buff early game damage spells by making them more mana efficient and won't do much late game.

Damage spells just needs a better scaling mechanism.

Questions: 1. Is it possible to give shape to control areas in the map editor? Control area sounds like an interesting feature, but it wouldn't be very fun to have maps with close geographical proximity but long pathfinding distance starting positions be unable to use that feature. 2. There is a con...

Making every race have the same resource needs and, from the looks of it, no or very little difference in buildings still counts, even if they're still different on the BF. All part of trying to make the game all about the battles at the expense of the adv. map. The differences between factions sho...

Hmmm? Gameplay features get cut when they are proven to not work or don't add anything to the gameplay, not because of "devolution." And battle.net 2.0 is their incompetence as social engineers, not game designers.

@Alama Alright, to the PM mobile!

Them's the perils of game design. As of right now, the best we can hope is that their "close cooperation with fans" means actively listening to such concerns, or even better, that they predicted this concern in the first place and have something in place to address it. Besides, an importan...

It is when making it more playable = reducing the number of differences... i actually think that's even the definition of homogenization. No, the definition of homogenization is making every race play the same. That is not the same as making every race viable. Important distinction. You can have di...

@Banedon Implementation is everything, and the change might be part of a greater scheme of changes. If nothing else changes in the grand scheme of things (new vulnerabilities introduced, or maybe overland spells ala the Haunt); or the castle's area of influence extends far out enough to comfortably ...

Hurray for homogenization and lazy map-making. Making the game playable regardless of what town you pick is automatically homogenization and lazy map making? Fantastic reasoning. Because you can't add that without removing mines... And you were complaining about lazy map making. Yes, let's just kee...

The whole point of having several resources is to force you to balance their use, that's part of the strategy. It's not like your opponent doesn't have to worry about these things, they also have to balance the use of rare resources. No, the point is, factions in this game tend to use different dis...

Then what's the point besides giving people the impression that it's less complex by only having 1 resource shown... Less resource pick up types to reduce extent of randomization, simpler to balance every map for every faction as you don't need to make sure every town has appropriate access to enou...

only bad thing about reducing the amount of resources I can think of is the lower amount of neutrals you have to defeat. I like exploring the map, defeating neutrals more then the actual running around chasing heroes taking towns and losing them on day 7 That's not inherently true. There can be oth...

It encourages getting mines before your opponent since the only way for your opponent to take those mines back is to take your town, which is much riskier than taking mines. That's wonderful. Except it doesn't, because the whole "can't flag taken mines" thing depends on area of influence ...

:D I can counter by pointing out that the hero is hidden from the archers and counter-strikes by the enemy hero while using information relayed by the spotters to nuke enemy formations. When things get too hot (spotters start dieing, army closing in), the hero flees. If the hero risks it long enough...

Well this is fun. The idea of a massive paladin stack getting stopped by a couple of lowly level 1 units is considered "unrealistic and should be removed from Heroes," while following a real life tactic of hit and run by using the logical accessories (a low profile commando/spotter team wi...
