New Map, Size *Impossible* -->PerformanceKiller. Betatest

Unread postby Guano » 14 Oct 2008, 00:01

Hi everyone,

First i hav to say, that iam a totally noob in playing this game,
but i love to be creative with the editor.

My first map (I think it will be my last map too^^)take 4-5 month full of work and should to be done next time, cause i have to do some learning and spend much more time with my girlfriend XD

In my view the Map is already done, theres just a litte work to do
with bugfixes and balance i hope.
Ineed some feedback and tips from other players
thats why i put this beta version online.

Ok thats for the beginning ;)

Now some words about the *performancekiller*
i have mentioned in the thread title:
1: Size Impossible -> Impossible sized maps needs generally
more resources i hear from some players.
2: A huge amount of Objects and effects are placed on the map.
3: Sometimes (often^^) the camera looks down from higher positions
to high detailed areas.
4... i dont know, but iam sure theres is something more ^^

Why do i design a map, with such things?
Its because, i want to test the limits and
iam a little bit megalomaniac^^
--------------------------------------------
Maybe this Map will not work on your System
You should have a good PC,especially a lot of Ram (2 GB would be fine).
Ive tested it on 4 PCS.
My old System with 2 GB Ram, 3000 MHZ Pentium CPU with a Geeforce 6600, could handle this map.
The Loading time was a litte bit longer as normal, an after
entering the map it laags for 2-5 minutes extremly.
But if i just wait this time until the game is ready in loading all
objects and effects, it works good playable.
(Sure not 100% good like normal maps, but in my opinion enough to have a good gameplay )

Later i have Testet it on a 3GB Ram and 6000 MHZ Prozessor System
It Loads a little bit faster but later its just a little diffrent to the other System. Maybe because there is just a onboard grafic Card radeon 1200 series.

Then my Laptop^^
It got 2GB Ram a 1600 MHZ CPU and a crappy Grafic Card, but
after a long loading time it works like the others ;)

The Last System was a 500MB Ram with Celeron 2.6GHz Prozessor
and here the map is nearly unplayable, dont try this^^

Iam sorry if this map doesnt work on your System ;(
-------------------------------------------

There are 2 files which have to be placed in the data folder.

The *Rain* file is to make the rain visible in the "Dungeon-Groundterrain" part of the map.

The Movepoints file adds more basic movepoints to every hero.
I think its necessary ,cause i have chanche the proportions of ways and object for a more real look ,it just will be a better gameplay.

I havent test how much Movepoints are enough, i will spend some time soon to find out^^

Here some general informations about the Map:
Map name: Ancient
Autohor: Guano
E-Mail Address: Grrrmit3r@gmx.de

Map Type: Multiplayer, 8 Player, Variable Teams (Team change ingame per integraded scripted "tool")
Map Size: Impossible, With Underground
Game Version: HommV TOE
Win: Defeat all
----------------------------
I dont know if its possible to make variable teams in another (more easy) way like i do^^ if not, check out the screenshot for the ingame-Teamtool
explanation^^

hmm thats all.

No wait...

Here the link to the map file :D

Those screenshots look very nice. It is obvious you have put lots of work into into your map. I wish I had time to help you playtest but at the moment I don't. Perhaps you should submit it for the playtesting section if you still need playtesters. If you do be sure to include a readme text file in the zip.

Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

From the screenshots I can say that it's a very beautiful map - too bad I can't test it at the moment.
No matter how powerful one becomes, there is always someone stronger. That's why I'm in a constant pursuit of power, so I can be prepared when an enemy tries to take advantage of me.
