Release of Civil War Part 2 postponed

Unread postby Yurian Stonebow » 31 Mar 2010, 06:12

Release of the H3:SoD map "American Civil War CSA" has been postponed to Q2. This is mostly due to my heavy involvement in the Sighisoara Project. I would also cite the work-in-progress called Imperial Days for the lack of proper time and energy so far invested in the "War Between the States" by yours truly.

Yurian, I hope all is well and I'm really sorry to hear you've quit these projects. I'd love to see at least some version of them released. Even if not right now, there will surely soon be plenty of mapmakers who could make a strong attempt to complete them.

Since the succesful release of the Imperial Days project, I can now once more dedicate my time and energy to prepare American Civil War Part II for release here at CH before the end of the year. Stay tuned for more.

American Civil War Part II almost finished

Unread postby Yurian Stonebow » 04 Mar 2011, 00:28

Update on the early hours of 4th of March, 2011

After a long pause, I returned to the Part II of the American Civil War saga. I have managed to produce a demo version of the map and I am now offering it up for testing by the general CH members and regulars.

Please contact me and I'll be most pleased to send you the H3:SoD map for testing. It's an Extra Large map so what you'll be facing is a hardcore session of easily 6 hours and more in terms of real time. :D

Onwards brave soldiers of the South!

It is rather an old game and the only last place where maps are discussed and played is maps4heroes.com. Last two years there were some very good maps released both for WoG and SoD and the concurrence is rude, so not every map is getting comments. But at least the players advices are pertinent and friendly. Moreover, you can't rate a map without writing a comment about why this or that, and this is a must.

I stopped considering Celestial maps database when I saw Alexander the Great got rated 6.88 without any comment behind. Clearly amateurs.

The updated map is now up on the CH main site! Thanks Kalah.
And thanks Salamandre for showing support. I hear you and feel with you on what you said about the rating system and feedback. It's a mess really, but what can we do about it. Oh well, at least we've done our best as map makers (for all it's worth...)

American Civil War Part II released

Unread postby Yurian Stonebow » 26 Feb 2012, 08:30

As seen on the CH front page, my latest solo map for Heroes III:Shadow of Death has been released. The map spent more than 3 years in development, and was delayed a number of times, most recently the infamous gap between version 0.95 released in June 2011 and the finalized 1.0 released less than 24 hours ago on February 25th 2012. The reason for these multiple delaying and postponing of the project can be blamed solely on me. I admit being at times quite frustrated, dispirited and just plain lazy. But as we all now, "better late than never", as an old saying has it.

Quoted from the ReadMe of American Civil War (CSA) 1.0:

"Map Name: American Civil War (CSA)

Multiplayer: NO

Special Win: Capture a specific town (Washington)

Special Loss: Lose a specific town (Richmond)

Description: Jefferson Davis has just sworn in as the C.S.A President.
Following this the Federals declared war in an attempt to restore the Union.
As a Confederate commander it is your duty to defend the newly achieved
independence of the South, drive back the enemy and finally take the war
to their home.

Notes for players:

The overall availability of magic has been intentionally scaled down with
the goal of achieving fair game between the various AI controlled factions,
and also due to real life related things: high level magic easing travelling on the
map is generally banned altogether. Whirlpools are also out of the question.
No level 5 spells! Although the map is recommended to be played on Hard difficulty,
it can also be enjoyed on Expert and Impossible as well if one plays carefully enough.
Each faction is generally limited to heroes within its own hero classes,
Conflux hero types as well as Necropolis heroes are rarely if it all encountered.
Please note that the enemy AI's aggressive stance has been increased since version 0.95"

My Thank Yous go to each and every one of my map testers and of course Kalah the Admin of CH. I especially wish to thank UndeadHalfOrc and ByteBandit for them first discussing and being the original launchers of the project. Their original ideas, support and feedback in the lengthy multi-year making of this two-part American Civil War Project was quite essential. I believe that the first ideas concerning the making of a Civil War themed H3 map dates back to late 2007! :)

Amongst my many map testers I wish to underline the huge share of the work done by dahlgren17 and Koni who during the many years stood by my side and gave their full support and numerous excellent ideas how to further improve the two maps, Part I Union and Part II CSA.

I wish you all, dear fellow Heroes III fans, a most pleasant gaming experience. Don't forget to send feedback. ;)

With solidarity,

Yurian

Excellent work! :applause:

And don't worry about the delay; it's not like the Civil War topic is going to get less current with a year's post-ponement. ;)
