Ok, I've experimented a bit with Neutral Towns.

I made three Castles(Haven):
1) No buildings or creatures ("Customize" is checked so no random creatures are added)
2) ALL dwellings and NO creatures ("Customize" checked)
3) Only one dwelling (Guardhouse), and 50 archers, 50 pikemen, 50 centaurs

In the experiment I waited till the end of each week for one month.

Week 0:
1) No creatures
2) No creatures
3) 50 archers, 50 pikemen, 50 centaurs

Week 1:
1) 9 archers
2) No creatures
3) 59 archers, 50 pikemen, 50 centaurs

Week 2:
1) 9 archers
2) 14 pikemen
3) 59 archers, 50 pikemen, 50 centaurs, 7 griffins

Week 3:
1) 9 archers
2) 14 pikemen, 7 griffins
3) 59 archers, 50 pikemen, 50 centaurs, 7 griffins, 4 swordsmen

My conclusion would be, first of all, that the creatures will grow independant of what's built on the town. In other tests runs, I've even encountered upgraded creatures, even when the basic building has not been built. The number added is equal to a normal town's growth. I didn't test with a castle built (+100% growth), but I think it will have no effect.
Whether there's growth or not is completely random. Sometimes there are new creatures, sometimes there aren't, so it could be considered a relatively slow growth.

Also, creatures of other alignments (Like the centaurs) won't grow. I'm sure most of you took this for granted anyway.

Yeah that last bit was kinda obvious.

But that's interesting to know. I wonder what applies for HoMM III
Grah!

Are you saying that in case three, the two actually lost archers between weeks 1 and 2? That's bizarre...

Er, I WAS talking about HoMM 3. Heroes IV doesn't have a weekly growth :P

That is what happens when you copy/paste stuff sometimes. I've corrected the mistake now. :D
