Heroes 2 won't install on 64-bit Vista

Unread postby accc » 08 Apr 2009, 13:58

When I attempt to install from the original HoMM2 disc I am greeted with the message "Unsupported 16 bit application: The program or feature \??\E:\_setup\setup.exe cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available." Well, seeing as how they no longer exist I might as well ask here. I tried running the setup file in compatibility mode but that didn't work.

Newer operating systems are never good. :disagree:

You might want to try using compatibility mode or emulator that runs older OS's. There's one for DOS called DOSbox. I'm not sure about WinXP.

Most likely the culprit are Aero supported features in your graphic card driver. You may try to use older WinXP64 drivers, thus you will lost Aero but the game may be about to run.

Or try virtualpc or vmware and run normal windows inside it.
