Mine is definitely the HoMM IV system, I love having to choose. :D

HoMM V: TotE is close behind.

HoMM5TotE, with H2 on 2nd place and H4 on 3rd place. I don't like the fact that there are only buyable creatures (H1) and all creatures having only one upgrade is booring (H3).
I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

Heroes 2, although I prefer paying NO PENALTY (like in H3) when upgrading my old units after the upg dwelling is built.

Heroes V, goes more deeply and that way you can get a more diverse army...

H4, freedom to choose is the best!

You mean HoMM V: TotE, right?
BrennusWhiskey wrote:H4, freedom to choose is the best!
I think freedom to choose would best describe HoMM V: TotE, since after you've chosen a dwelling in HoMM IV, there's no going back.

Heroes II -- it helps add to faction diversity. Unlike UHO, however, I think removing the penalty on upgrading already purchased creatures was one of the worst decisions ever made -- I like having to choose whether to buy something now or wait until I build the upgraded structure.

Second favorite in the HoMM IV system. It adds strategy. You have to have some vague notion of how your choice will help you down the road, and must make tradeoffs.

I would like the TotE system if there was no option to retrain.

The HoMM III system is extremely boring -- I find it even more boring than the H1 system!

Me too, actually, if only because the way it is now often makes it too easy.

I like H4 system. No upgrades for units but dwelling selection instead. This makes units look more all-sufficient.

H2 system comes second.

H5 - is most stupid and unrealistic. Especially in Tote. Making boys from girls or transforming creatures into really different ones is meh..

That first part is just nitpicking, it may not make sense or the developers may just be really sexist, but in the end, why should you be bothered by something so insignificant?

Which creatures are transformed into really different ones? Off the top of my head, I can think of zero examples.

Nah, genies are genderless and can change their appearance at will. They just don't want you ordering them to their deaths when they don't have Master training, so they change appearance to reflect their toughness.

In my opinion upgrading units with few free options and possibility back to basic form is stupid.

Well, you may think it's stupid, but it still offers the most freedom.

And have you actually played TotE? There's no going back to "basic form", only re-upgrading to the alternative upgrade for a small price.

Voted: Heroes 4 Upgrade System but Heroes 3 was a close second. At first, when H4 was released, I loathed having to choose between two different creatures but now I really like it, so much so that I voted for it. :-D

Methinks this was just an oversight by New World Computing. ;|

H4's is the one i liked best... but preferably with some option to replace them for some cash... as it was way annoying to capture a town with the opposite building in it...

So, um, that would basically be the TotE system! :)

Yeah, that was the thing i hated. Most of the time when you captured a town, you have to choose which tier of monster you want, and that messes up your tactics...
