Heroes 2 under XP
Heroes 2 under XP
Hello everyone. I can't run H2 under XP. Is there any patch or some kind of program that solves this? I want to try this game cuz I haven't played it since I was 9:D

Have you tried setting it to run in Win '95 compatibility mode? I recently (finally) got my mother insterested in trying Heroes, and I started her with H2. It runs fine, although a lot of the sound was off until I installed PoL. Too bad, since I think she would have liked the operatic soundtrack of the original.
And yes, she is thoroughly addicted to the game, and she seldom needs advice anymore (on easy level). I'll let her decide when she wants to try a harder skill level.

I had got the troubles with running Heroes2 under WinXP on my laptop. The solution was to run it in window-mode, not in full-screen mode

Funny this topic should come up, since I recently reinstalled Heroes 2 (Original, not Gold) on my XP machine for nostalgia.
Anyways, it installed fine and I was able to play no problem in Win 95 compatibility mode. However, when I installed the 1.3 patch, the game started crashing constantly after loading. I tried a bunch of things, including running the game out of DOSBox.
After a while, I got the idea of disabling compatibility mode and violla!, the game runs perfectly.
Now if only I could find my PoL CD…

From my experience all windows versions run fine on any Windows(not sure about Vista though), the only trouble is seldom crashing while playing MP via hamachi

Hey all,
I hope that this is the right place to put my question...
I have installed the Heroes II Gold version on XP, but when i try to launch the game, the screen turns black (as if the game is loading) and the mouse pointer turns into the HII type of pointer. But it all stops there.
I read in another thread of something about a windowed mode. But if this is the solution, how do I turn the game into window mode?
Ps. Well the Map Editor, works atleast... And sorry for poor english Ds.
Please help, this game and heroes III rocks *old 486 memories*

I am not sure, but I think to change it to windowed mode, you have to press F4 or F5, I may be wrong though.
If that doesn't work, try running it in compatibility mode.
Right click on the games .exe file, go to properties, then compatibility, and run it under win 95 or win 98.
Hope it works out for you.
