HOMM4: What do you carry into battle?

Unread postby gravyluvr » 23 Feb 2007, 02:36

This one's pretty easy...

You are a level one hero (whatever class you want).
You have been given a starting town a wood and ore mine and have lightly defended resource mines, chests and random resources around your area.

You won't have access to a tavern anytime soon.

Your town has three levels of expansion area and you will be expanding your empire into these areas as fast and furious as you can build up since each other town has a similar perimeter around it.

I a nutshell...
Town, Wood, Ore (no tavern) flagged to start
Level 1-2 creatures defend gem, crystal, merc, sulfur "camps"
Level 3 creatures defend wood, ore, gem, crystal, merc, sulfur "mines"
Level 4 creatures defend gold mines and the passes from your lands to the enemy territories and neutral towns

You get to have five artifacts with you on your journey.

What are they?

Well, I only need two: Hideous Mask and Halberd of the Swiftwatch. The others won't really be necessary, but if I really have to take them, it will be Neener's Invulnerable Cloak, Breastplate of Regeneration and Boots of Travel.

I follow pepak, with two changes. The Neener's Invulnerable Cloak I don't feel absolutely necessary (block the spell casters's line of sight) while the Breastplate of Regeneration can be substituted by Potions of Immortality. Hence I'd take the Ring of Permanency (you gotta have this artifact, it boosts your army 10-fold) and perhaps the Equestrian Gloves.

I'd probably start out with an Archer, with these:

1. Grail
2. Frost Hammer
3. Tiger Helm
4. Tiger Armor
5. Horned Bow

or:

1. Grail
2. Breastplate of Regeneration
3. Sword of the Gods
4. Helm of Command (possibly trade this one for Boots of Travel)
5. Horned Bow

My five items are likely...

Halberd of the Swiftwatch
Hideous Mask
Ring of Permanency
Boots of Travel
Amulet of Fear

Or maybe Breastplate of Regeneration instead of one of the previous items.

Plus, its probably not fair to allow the Archmage special with the five items being the Archmage's Hat, the Staff of Disruption, the Wayfaring Boots, the Ring of Flares, and the Angelfeather Cloak

AFAIK Halberd of the Swiftwatch and Hideous Mask each grant you the bonus an Amulet of Fear gives, so AoF seems a waste of a slot to me.

All artifacts & relics count ?

Here's an alternative :

Crown of Magi
Amulet of Fear
Scroll with Hand of Death
Breastplate of Regeneration
Halberd of Swiftwatch

Why the Hand of Death scroll, and why stack Amulet of Fear with Halberd of the Swiftwatch? I might imagine Hand of Death killing opposing heroes quickly, but then with heroes learning Magic Resistance soon and line-of-sight always being blocked, I can't see why it's good.

True. Forgot about that when making the list... Substitute Breastplate of Regen for the Amulet then...
