Several problems with this:

1) the H2 versions are just recolored, yet both are there. For that matter, all the upgraded H2 troops are simple recolors (the only exception is the archer, where the upgrade gets a hat, and the elf, where the upgrade gets another feather)
2) the Vindicator also has a different sword than the squire (a much more nasty blade- serrated as well) I think the helm is different also, but I'll have to load up the images to check.
3) The polls that were created before the expansion was released have an excuse for not including the expansion - it didn't exist at the time. This poll was made after the release, and so should have included it.

Decided for H3 Crusader against the H4 for the animation. It delivers a mighty stroke against the slashing of H4

voted h2 upg, tho h4 would have almost been my choice too.

h1 looks weak.
h2 had good stance. that feather on upgs head actually fitted there.
h3... almost all h3 units look uglier than h2 and h4. this is no exception.
h4 looks great, but it lacks a shield. i feel sorry for the poor man in there when he gets hit. sure, spearmen always lack shield, but theyre lower class anyway. besides, shield is too good decoration to pass it up.
h5 is by far the worst here. gross exaggeration in everything they have is the trademark of Nivals attitude towards Knight faction.

It was difficult to choose H4 or H3, but I voted H3 Crusader, don't know why, maybe because I like H3 more than H4.

Voted H3 Crusader. I like their shiny, although pretty noisy, armour more than those worn by other swordmen. They also resemble H2 crusaders and paladins in some way.

I like H4 crusaders, since they look like sturdy swordsmen indeed. Close followed by pot-head H3 crusaders. H3 swordsmen were nice too, followed by H1 which seemed to fit their post.

H2 and H5 however, weren't that kind though. H2 looked like those ball-like mammals which I forgot the name, digging the ground. And H5 were like peasants. When upgraded, peasants with a bird on the head.

Me too! I like the two H5 versions better than any others, but for once I think the upgraded one is slightly inferior.

Shouldn't Cursaders be placed in the Crusader evolution thread? I voted for the Heroes 4 Crusader, but I don't think this was the correct place for it seeing as how Swordsman and Crusaders have been treated as different units (except for 3) throughout the series.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

throughout the series
H2 wasn't the entire series.... and lvl wise the H4 crusaders are renamed swordsmen.

For this evolution they are all pretty good. I like them all but the H1 swordsman got the nod from me. A solid unit, and the graphic fits the knight theme of heroes 1 very well.

Edit: great introduction Orfinn!
