I voted 4, i think that a lot of the gold people are seeing are part of the tabard, which isn't armor.

Care to explain?
Theyd be pretty effective imo.But theyd also require one hell of a training, and each mounted crossbowmen killed would be worth at least 10 of the regular infantry.Thats why mounted archers were in so few numbers.

Nope.In fact, armor was provided just with the appearance of payed military. And those were rare before middle ages.Sure rome had them. And greece and persia too.But as for the rest, armor was mostly self obtained.

Actually, even in the Greek and earlly Roman times one had to provide one's own equipment. The difference between that and the middle ages is that the gap between those who had lots of money and those who didn't wasn't that big.

Only militia got armor because they are mostly too poor to buy themeselves armor.
Soldiers on other hand, needed to buy themeselves armor in both middle ages and Roman ages (Hastati). What richer you were that better armor you needed.
I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

I like the HoMM IV crossbowman the best. I find the purple regalia, worn by several other Haven units as well, quite fitting.

Not too fond of these troops having heavy armour, though.

Odd question

Unread postby Mytical » 11 Sep 2006, 05:02

Since my alltime favorite ranged unit the Sharpshooter would be under 'archer' I guess (ugh) I had to go with h5 on this, to me the double crossbow was more about power then shooting twice. Isn't realistic, but then again it took a lot of time to put bolts in, and if using realism they would attack very slow (but do a ton of damage).

Voted Heroes III Marksman. This unit is a member of my "H3 All-Stars gang."
Also, you just got to love that royal Erathian uniform of his.
