Best/worst town in heroes IV

Unread postby Jimmpi » 23 Jul 2006, 18:09

Just like the titel say's...what do you think??

Personally I think the worst is nature,no doubt about it..That town sucks in my eyes..there only creature that is good are there lvl 4. the rest sucks big time.

The best is more tricky to ansewer..but I think I have to say order..good troops all around..with genies in the top...only black dragons as the big enemy...but the dragon golem/titan are also great..

Maybe you should have posted it as a poll??
Are we discussing with or without Equi?

I actually feel that the HIV towns are pretty well balanced.
If I have to name a town to be weaker than the others, I'd have to say either Barbarian or Necro. Barbarians due to lack of magic and Necro because of relatively weak lvl 1 and 2. Both towns have great lvl 3 units though...

Best: Order. No explanation needed :D

Worst: Necro: Cause I hate it and everything's in a slow pace :disagree:
This minor magical charm captures the viewer's attention and distra... ooo, pretty...

While i still think H4 towns are all so bad they dont even deserve talking about, ill throw in my op as well.

Best: Barb
Worst: Necro (simply because of "infernal death" theme.)

Note that question was best, not strongest (for which i couldnt even answer the question since i stoped playing h4 after 2 days so i cant tell :)

I stopped playing H4 after one day. Actually, it was more like 20 hours.

The best were Wizards because it's the only town that I had the patience to play with for more than 2 hours. Although, this could be because of the game, rather than the faction.

Worst is Necro because of Infernal Death theme which was one of the worst ideas to grace the homm franchise... and H4 was full of bad ideas, while the few good ones weren't enough to pull it out of the gutter.

2 days :| 20 hours :| Thats lots of time to find out and test which ideas were bad :devious:
Worst- might. Might hero sucks, have to fight first battles without berserks or loose most of them, no magic. Order might hero as a secondary hero is a must do.
Best- Necro. Great unit diversity, by 9lv necro can start raising vampires.

My favorite is Necropolis, cause the Undead rule. And the worst us Order, i get dizzy just looking at it.
Anyways, all the towns in H4 have the same standard placements of all buildings, and that sucks. It takes the indivitiuality away from the towns, when the magic guild is placed the same spot in every town, as is lvl 1 buildinds and lvl 2... ect. Unlike all the others HoMM, which have a special layout for each kind of town.

If you mean "best" and "worst" in terms of strength, then

best - death
worst - life
(from the strongest to the weakest: death, combat, nature, order, chaos, life)

If you mean "best" and "worst" in terms of fun, then

best - combat
worst - chaos
(from the most to the least interesting: combat, nature, life, death, order, chaos)

Well, they are surely made better then in H3. Those in H3 look like same towns just with different creatures. You can take a cleric to lead demon armies and there would be no penality.

H2, H4 and H5 are great when it comes to factions (especialy H5)

Best? Academy.
Worst? Stronghold (because of stench)

I would say nothing in h3 is as much better than in h4 than the towns...

h4 got 6 same looking towns, and were boring even to look at...

h3 ones were real eyecatchers.

Of course you can make a case for any town..

But, personally, I think the best is Death, and the worst would have to be Nature...

Besides the eye-catcher H3 doesn't have anything else good. No matter which FACTION you take, you use the same tactics to survive. Even the heroes are the same. Whats difference betewen an Wizard and an Cleric? Only Nekromancers and Death Knights are different because of their Nekromancy skill.

H4 has its own magic school, every creature is different, heroes have different skills and there is an penality of mixing cities. Using the same tactics which Academy and Heaven is stupidity.

I agree with Ya5MieL.

H4 has a to boring layout, while H3 is adventurous and beautifull. :D

@Sauron
Where not talking about tactics...

For diference between heroes i could say the same about diferences in class in h4 :)
whats the diference between 2 necromancers in h4? :P
whats the difference between creature levels? its all same there, too.,... level 1 cant posibly stand vs lv 2, lv2 cant fight lv3, lv3 cant stand vs lv4.
So strategy is pretty much the same for all factions... lv1 cannon fodder, lv2 slightly better cannon fodder, lv3 HUGe Leap, lv4-whenever you get 14k gold (with any faction).
I had a feeling im playing with 1 faction :P
magic system was indeed better, but this thread is about towns and in H3 they are simply better designed :)

But, lets not turn this into another h3 vs h4 thread...

you have your opinion, i have mine... and its clear no one is gona change it. :)

Pozdrav..

As they are (just comparing creatures and buildings):
1.Order/Combat
2.Death/Nature
3.Life
4.Chaos

In gameplay, when you get the best out of it:
1.Nature/Death
3.Death
4.Order
5.Life/Chaos

Most enjoyable: Nature/Combat

Less Enjoyable: Chaos

That's a very dangerous claim. It works on average, obviously (what would be the point of levels if a lower level was consistently stronger than a higher level, after all - "my 1st level warrior beats your 20th level warrior to ground"??), but there are quite a few lower-level creatures that are able to beat some higher-level creatures. E.g. Sprites, Vampires, Water Elementals, Medusae... Not to mention your creatures are supposed to cooperate, which makes several more low-level units even more useful.
So strategy is pretty much the same for all factions...
Two words only: LOL ROTLF!!

Heroes
One nekromancer on lv. 10 becomes an Dark Priest while the other becomes an Demonologist. As the game progresses, the heroes become more and more different. If starting classes are different, then the more different the heroes later become.
H5 heroes also become more and more different while they progress.
In H3 on the other hand, heroes differ only in specialities which makes theme great in begining but heroes become more and more the same later in game.

strategies
H4:
Heaven: Archers are the key (every level has an archer)
Stronghold: Numbers and might are they key (Breeding pens)
Preserve: Summoning and speed are the key (Summoning Magic and flying)
Necropolis: Raising and numbers are the key
Asylum: striking when needed and destroying enemy fastly is the key
Academy: spells are the key

H3:
Necropolis: Raising is the key
Castle: Numbers are the key
Conflux and Tower: Spells are the key
Other: Coudn't think of any

H5:
Heaven: not sure
Inferno: Numbers and summoning is the key
Necropolis: Numbers and raising is the key
Dungeon: Might and magic are the key
Sylvan: Speed and archers are the key
Academy: Magic is the key

Design
Can't argue with that. H4 graphic design is like it is a... poo made in the Beta phase.

Arguing
I agree that opinions won't change but then the H1-4 subforum would be empty :D
