Don't forget that they are just a 1 lvl, after few easy battles they must die or stay in home.
You can always use them to kill some leprechauns or few troglodytes, but later let them protect castle from accidental capture by 1 lvl thief :D

They are a bit slower. And don't walk as much as the other lvl 1 units, and don't have stun like squires. (Orcs don't really need protection.)

Voted Squire and Crossbowman. The combo of the abilities Stun and No Range Penalty is quite powerful. If I had to break the pair, I'd go with the Crossbowman. I have always liked archers. (Those who know me would probably say that "ye, he's always afraid of losing his precious shooters")
