Something strange about the Heroes II campaign

Unread postby Paviel » 24 Sep 2014, 19:20

In the intro to the Heroes II campaign, the narrator said "Traditionally, the choice of the heir falls to the royal seer..."

According to what tradition? Unless Heroes II took place many generations after Heroes I, rather than just one generation, there wasn't enough time to establish a tradition as to how a successor was to be determined. After all, Morglin Ironfist did not inherit the kingdom of Enroth; he founded it. And beforehand, there was no kingdom to speak of.

Maybe it's simply a tradition Morglin "imported" from his home world.

It tooks place 25 years after HoMM1:
HoMM2 description wrote:Having crushed his enemies, consolidated his power base and eliminated dissent at the end of Heroes of Might and Magic, Lord Ironfist settled down to rule the land of Enroth. After 25 years of peace, the land is again thrust into turmoil. Lord Ironfist is dead and the ensuing struggle for power between his sons, Archibald and Roland, has led to a state of civil war. Players must choose sides and gather their armies as they use all of their strategic wit and tactics to join in the battle for domination of the lands.

He conquered Enroth (continent) and founded his dynasty.
Enroth has more then 1000+ years of history and some cities (like Free Haven, where Ironfists' High Council is located) are even older.

I meant immediately before, when Ironfist was battling Slayer, Lamanda, and Alamar for control over Enroth. There wasn't a seer deciding which of them would rule, was there?

There wasn't a king too and Morglin Ironfist came from another world (as probably 3 other lords), so they start fights to conquer Enroth themselves.
25 years later, when Ironfist ruled with... well, iron fist, he had two heirs, who didn't need to fight for throne... but they did that anyway.
25 years is a long time and Morglin could be informed about how succesuion system worked on Enroth long before him or, like Marzhin said, it was a ritual bring from his world.

That wasn't how the successor to Morglin's father was decided, though. Ragnar's father just seized the throne for himself.

Morglin made that tradition by himself. Unfortunately no one would care (otherwise there would be no Succession War).
