Portable Heroes? The nintendo DS.....

Unread postby ChimTheGrim » 23 Apr 2006, 22:19

I think Heroes of Might and Magic III would be the perfect game for a system like the Nintendo DS. The stylus control could prove very similar to the PC standard- the mouse.

If you think about it in detail and try to dismiss the small amount of negatives you can think of.. you'd see that this is a very good idea. The DS is not all like a Gameboy in the sense that you have many other options on how to control the game being played. Anyone who's played a DS have anything to say?

If you've never played a DS... Please do not respond.

It is a bad idea. Most of us play heroes every time they get near the computer.Imagine if we could play it every hour,at any place!

DaemianLucifer is right - do you think you will work (or learn or do something important) if you have your HOMAM there? NO! :)

I tend to think your position suggests my idea is a good one.

So I guess not may people on the celestial forums have played a DS before?

I think you guys should get a DS Lite when it's released next month. It is definately worth it. The system is perfect for the HoMaM series.

Okay.. anyone who's played a DS even at wal-mart or Best Buy... give your opinion on the matter.

I don't have experience with portable devices, but I really would like to give the Portable Heroes a try. The screens, description and user opinions (as few as i have read them) are very promising. Unfortunately nobody among my friends has a pocket PC, and to buy one just for this sounds a bit too crazy.

Yes, but my proposal is not to put it on a Pocket PC. I propose to develope HoMaM III for the Nintendo DS. A system with the graphical power that can display 2D VERY well as shown in the game Kirby Canvas Curse and many others for the system.

A Nintendo DS will only cost you $130 at the moment.. and probabally even cheaper come this holiday season- Seeing that the Nintendo DS needs to compete with Sony's PSP.

This is what a Nintendo DS looks like:

NOTE, the bottom screen is a touch screen that can be used a lot like a PDA. Which is perfect for the HoMaM series in portable form. The top screen can display unit stats and what not... while the bottom screen is used to control your movements and everything.

Also, just to show you the kind of 2D graphics this system can handle no problem:

I hope these examples give you idea of the system I speak of... It really is worthy of a HoMaM game.

Yes, I also started a topic about a DS-heroes on the french official forums a while back. You should also have a look to the DS version of Disciples 2 :

Wow... I really didn't know they were making Diciples 2 for the DS.

I've never really played Diciples, but I hear it's very similar to Heroes. So I bet this will get me what I'm looking for in a turn-based strategy game for the DS. Hopefully it releases sometime this year.

It's really not that similar beyond having heroes with creatures and being a TBS. People just say that because HoMM is the closest thing to it.

Looks like Disciples still hasn't been released for the DS.

Anyone ever play either of the Gameboy Advance Heroes games?

It was for Game Boy Color. I tried the first one back in the day. Surprisingly faithful to the computer version gameplay-wise, but really ugly :p

Anyway, 2nd screen can be used for anything, from heroe screens, town screens, textboxes...
