Are these good build orders?

Unread postby pikeman93 » 01 Aug 2011, 05:11

What do you think of these build orders (all 9 of them) for the first 14 days at knight difficulty (so 10 of each resource and 20000 starting gold) and with enough gold nearby?

Castle (I pick cleric so that I don't need to build a mage guild):

1:Town hall
2:Archer's tower
3:Blacksmith
4:Barracks
5:Stables
6:Training grounds
7:Citadel
8:Upgraded archer's tower
9:Marketplace
10:Mage guild 1
11:City hall
12:Griffin tower
13:Monastery
14:Castle

I wish I can fit a portal of glory in there, but I can't. It's way too expensive, and building one would mean that I would have to wait several days of not building anything just to get enough gold.

Rampart:

1) Town hall
2) Homestead
3) Upgraded homestead
4) Enchanged spring
5) Dendroid arches
6) Unicorn glade
7) Citadel
8) Mage guild 1
9) Marketplace
10) Blacksmith
11) City hall
12) Dwarf cottage
13) Mystic pond
14) Castle

Should I build a Mage guild 2 and dragon cliff on second week or no?

Conflux:

1)Town hall
2)Mage guild 1
3)Altar of air
4)Altar of water
5)Upgraded altar of air
6)Garden of life
7)Citadel
8)Upgraded magic lantern
9)Altar of fire
10)Altar of earth
11)Altar of thought
12)Pyre
13)Blacksmith
14)Castle

It seems that I can't make 5 psychic elementals in week 2 without sacrificing town hall on day 1.

Tower:

1) Town hall
2) Mage guild 1
3) Parapat
4) Golem factory
5) Mage tower
6) Golden pavilion
7) Citadel
8) Upgraded workshop
9) Marketplace
10) Blacksmith
11) City hall
12) Altar of wishes
13) Cloud temple
14) Castle

Stronghold
1) Town hall
2) Wolf pen
3) Cliff nest
4) Behemoth lair
5) Orc tower
6) Ogre fort
7) Citadel
8) Mage guild 1
9) Marketplace
10) Blacksmith
11) City hall
12) Hall of Valhalla
13) Cyclops cave
14) Castle

Fortress
1) Town hall
2) Lizard's den
3) Serpent fly hive
4) Upgraded serpent fly hive
5) Basilisk's pit
6) Gorgon's lair
7) Citadel
8) Mage guild 1
9) Marketplace
10) Blacksmith
11) City hall
12) Wyvern nest
13) Hydra pond
14) Castle

I dunno... wyvern's kind of suck compared to other lvl 6's so I decided to omit them

Inferno
1) Town hall
2) Hall of sins
3) Mage guild 1
4) Kennels
5) Demon gate
6) Fire lake
7) Citadel
8) Upgraded kennels
9) Marketplace
10) Blacksmith
11) City hall
12) Hell hole
13) Forsaken palace
14) Castle

Necropolis
1) Town hall
2) Graveyard
3) Mage guild 1
4) Estate
5) Mausoleum
6) Hall of darkness
7) Citadel
8) Necromancy amplifier
9) Marketplace
10) Blacksmith
11) City hall
12) Tomb of souls
13) Dragon vault
14) Castle

Dungeon
1) Town hall
2) Harpy loft
3) Pillar of eyes
4) Chapel of stilled voices
5) Labyrinth
6) Upgraded harpy loft
7) Citadel
8) Mage guild 1
9) Marketplace
10) Blacksmith
11) City hall
12) Battle scholar academy
13) Manticore lair
14) Castle

At normal difficulty -as you suggest- those are the worse orders I ever saw. Starting with 20k gold and not being able to get angels on day 7 is only a skill problem, not a resources problem or a build order.

This thread may help you to understand what is wrong in your Heroes approach.

I'm sorry. I got the build orders mostly from here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/63965-heroes ... faqs/15480

EDIT: What level of difficulty do most people play?

No idea, I play H3 on Impossible.

To that order, on the Knight difficulty it may be ok. It looks too universal to be really useful, however. And omitting Wyverns could prove to be a great mistake! :D

If possible, I build wyverns on day 3 or 4. 6 wyverns at the start of week 2 is usually enough all by themselves to clear everything without losses (particularly if you have haste or slow, and take a dragonfly for first action) If you wait with wyverns until week 2, and have all the tier 1-5 units already, then they lose their usefulness.

I've been thinking about it, and yea, I agree that the build orders could have been better. What do you think of these build orders?

Lol Pol, you torture him and...us.

@Pikeman:

Imagine you start on a template with dungeon and shakti -common start for dungeon-. You get another warlock in tavern + a trog dwelling near your town (common situation on most random templates). Now Shakti has tactics, trogs specialty and 120-150 trogs on him. At one day march you see a dragon dwelling and you plan to take him on second day -because Shakti can do that-.

What you build on first day, seeing this particular situation-to optimize Shakti chances-? And what will be your best build on second day, after taking the dragon cave? Think creative, not only theory.

IRT pikeman93:

If you can by pass a building to go for 7th lvl dwelling, just do it.

If that's not possible, go for creature hording (not having hordes of creatures).

If that's still not possible, accumulate resources first.

If even that's not possible, just use more heroes.

No need to go for the biggest gun ASAP. Sometimes smaller things are just enough.
