Has anyone tried installing HOMM I, II, III, or IV yet on Windows 7? Do they work?

Thanks.

No, but I don't see reason why they shouldn't. At least as long as you have Windows7 Pro. (Coming with "Compatibility Wizard")

HoMM4 works here even better than on XP. Not sure about others, though AFAIK HoMM1 uses DOSBox, which works on Win7 just as well.

That is very good news indeed. 64-bit or 32-bit?

Well...

x64 = 64-bit
x86 = 32-bit

I assume x86_64 means 64-bit.

Correct! :) x86_64 is the long form of x64.

It would be great if someone could test out HoMM3 on Win7 64-bit.

By rights, the gog.com version shouldn't have any problems, but better safe than sorry.

Anything that works on Vista at a certain bit type will generally run a lot better in 7.

Just checked, both HoMM3: Complete and H3WOG work correctly here, even without installation.

Choppy Homm4

Unread postby Blueman » 30 Oct 2009, 07:55

Hi everybody,

I just moved to Windows 7 Ent (32bit), on a HP 8730w. It has a 512MB nvidia card and 4gb of ram.
Still, I have a problem running Homm4. The graphic is really slow and choppy, it is impossible to play; and in windowed mode...it's even worse.
I am running h4mod.exe in XP compatibility mode.
Any settings that I should change?

Thanks!

For me, it's a little laggy in the overworld and OK in combat mode, without any compatibility options.

You may try to experiment with a graphic driver. The experiment is the right word, so be careful. Try older, newer version or the one provided directly from nvidia.

You may also look for some extra settings and switch them off.

The initial posts here are encouraging, but there are several flavors of 7, are you using the home, the professional or the ultimate versions in 64 or 32 bit. Right now the professional version is required for the XP compatibility pack, but that verison is a lot more expensive than the home version. So is that XP add on really even needed?

I'm using x64 Ultimate, but I don't use any addons. All the programs here run without any compatibility options, too.

Yes but the Ultimate costs about $219 per copy where you can get a Home three pack for $149, so has anyone run H-IV on the 64 bit home edition?
