That's the theory. I am here to prove it, and try to measure the power of this effect.
Veldryn 15:15 And Vel found a dirty old jawbone of a walrus and put forth his hand, and took it, and in his unholy rage, he slew thirty four thousand men and children therewith.

BTW i bet that for the map popularity at CH the most important factor is - how long that map was present at the main page.

Am I the only one who makes a concerted effert NOT to look at a minimap before I play it? Frankly, I wish CH didn't post those at all. I think it spoils half the fun of the map - especially when the minimap forms a picture.

did you evaluate the influence of the mapmaker's name too?
I think (hope) that the maps of the best mapmakers like Veldrynus or Ururam Tururam are mostly downloaded, look the minimaps interesting or not...

That is another factor impossible to measure. And it is not the only one. I am sure, that the effect of the mapmaker's name is statistically insignificant. Even if a few player's choises might be influenced by a few mapmaker names, this is not a general rule.

BTW
I've finished collecting data. I am making the final calculations using 25 votes.

I agree here.

Moreover - some people like maps of a certain mapmaker (and thus they download any new map of this creator) and some other don't like that style and ignore subsequent maps of this cartographer.

I think Vel planned to put it up on the main page when it's finished.
