I'm a city boy, so I never really get far enough into the country to experience the road conditions you're describing. We get ice occasionally, but it doesn't last long after the road is plowed and the sun gets a chance to beat on it. ABS and Traction Control have always suited me just fine.

I don't have a car.

Funny story though, one of the "outsiders" here once got stuck in the snow. A local with some large vehicle dragged him out, but all he said before helping was "You don't have a 4WD!?" in an extremely condescending tone, like only these people can. Though of course, they also shift from cars to snowmobiles in the winter.

Geez... what kind of place can be that? And what altitude?

I've been in such places. Although not sea-level, rather high. But far away from civilization, and where the -30 and snow are just as normal like sunshine in Sahara.

I do if I'm going out or something. Or if I'm waiting for the sports... ;)

Besides, Norwegian weather presenters have a tendency of looking like this:
