Got a Mark Knopfler album for Christmas. "Kill to get crimson". Listening to it now. Mostly relaxing songs.

Very well. Here's a band by the name of Riverside, they are basically progressive rock.

Try listening to Dance with the Shadow, that's a fairly good song.
A more well known progressive band would probably be Dream Theater... and just in case you haven't' actually heard them... (God forbid)

Wow no one listens to Jazz? I'm slightly surprised although I only listen to the tiniest amount myself. I'm quite sure at least a few people have heard of Dream Theater otherwise I'll spontaneously combust and leave you guys to do the paper work that comes after.
