Oh...I see.

I don't have Vista myself...but it does takes up a godly amount of memory, so I would think it hurts the gaming performance...

For now, I'll keep using XP :D.

I think that's a wise idea, at least until the second edition makes it release

Agreed. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Really?

You should see how hard was deleting of link which you had previously created in Vista Beta. Something like five alert windows asking you if it's what you want to do.

I have carefully read not all avalaible documentation,.. but tons of them :D,
and decided to upgrade my Windows XP.
Now I have Ubuntu Linux +WINE. WINE is a bit slow, but H3 runs propely.

I have seen some hungarian tests with Vista. On one PC notepad.exe(or how they call it now) crashed under Vista unlimited.. General protection failure. :D

Can anyone comment on how vista performs with non-gaming software? I am concerned about buying a pc with vista because there are several programs for work that I will need to run, and I do not know how they will run under Vista. I.e., do most programs that run under XP also run under Vista, and if so, is there a noticeable drop in performance?

*bump*

Any updates in this area? Have GPU drivers been updated to perform better with Vista? I read somewhere that nVidia cards were especially problematic... how does H5 run under Vista these days? Or Oblivion? Still trying to decide if I want to upgrade when I order my new notebook after Santa Rosa comes out next month.

Thats very simple. Make some kind of table with two columns (vista and xp) and start to compare. Like this:

Code: Select all

                                   XP Vista
Software compatibility +
Software performance +
Overall security +
Less RAM Usage +
Less HDD Space Usage +
Drivers performance & stability +
User Interface +
DX10 +

True... vista kind of sucks for now... but let's keep in mind that XP wasn't really that great until the release of SP2.

In another order of events... does Heroes 5 work for any of you using Vista?
If yes, how did you manage to make it work?
Same question for Heroes 4 Equilibris.

For me they both crash the moment I run them.

I was hoping for a more constructive response especially related to this part of my post:

Why so ? That was pretty funny :)

Anyhow, I cant understand what makes you people to choose Vista. Its like making problems for oneself for no reason.
