I have XP as well, but I'm going to turn the comupter into a dualbooted one as soon as I can (which could mean anytime from next week to June).

Yes, but If he's going to have a computer that's "only" meant to run DOS, 95 or 98 isn't going to matter much, is it?

I have XP (Home at home, Professional on my laptop for work). That's my favorite version of Windows, partly because I spent more than a year on the terrible Windows ME. I think I suffered only one or two major crash on XP in more than three years.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

A DOS emulator is a better solution. At least your computer won't be ruined if something goes wrong.

Multiple OS's. I run HoMM4 on Win 98SE, the wife on XP SP2. A third machine is a media server running XP SP2 streaming audio to various points around the living space. I voted for the lowest/oldest, just because I tend to support the underdogs. :-D

Lordy, I miss UNIX.

Reminds me of my old 6 volt Volkswagen. A simple machine that got me where I needed to go and that I could fix if it broke. There was no gas gauge and the battery was under the back seat. But I could set the timing using a flashlight bulb on a wire.

UNIX was a lot like that. A simple, logical system where you could see all the working parts. Now Windows has become a bloated, complicated mess. And the developers go to great length to hide the way it works. If it were not for games, you couldn't pay me to use it.

And Linux didn't? Most of the distributions, at least.

Mainly lInux Fedora Core 3. But still making experiments..... (qemu for DOS)

:bloated?

The original UNIX wasn't , now, maybe. Some time is always wasted in seeking for right applications but I don't think that my distro is bloated, if you don't install everything on start it will went fine.
