I'm sorry to hear that, ScarlettP. It must be tough to see your dad like that.

But, chin up! You're back. We can be your moral support! ;)

Thanks guys. We're all dealing with it fairly well now. It was hard to get 'used to' at first, but dad seems to be pretty much 'ok' with his situation. He's in good spirits and not in any pain... just frustrated that he can't go outside and smoke. :| Which is part of what put him in this situation in the FIRST place... but it's to late to complain about it now. Dad's 79 - so we figure he had a pretty good run... as long as he's not hurting and he's still making sence when he talks, we figure that's about the best we could ask for.

Unfortunately after some time we are prone to all kinds of problems...Your father's case is a bit worse that most :(

Hi letty - nice to see an old face return!

So far, I haven't actually lost much weight, but have lost a couple of inches off my waist and have put on muscles in places that I didn't know I had.
That's great! Just keep in mind that weight loss is really only a secondary benefit of exercise. Heart health (and preventing diabetes, as you point out below) is the much bigger plus! Keep at it - you'll be glad you did. :)

And so sorry to hear about your dad. My thoughts are with you!

ScarlettP wrote: Yes, for those of you who care - I AM still alive. Life just got in the way. Some good things, some bad, all needing a great deal of my attention and cutting into my computer time.
Phew. I was dead worrying about you, dear! And that was not because you haven't returned (soon) the e-mails, but that's because you haven't said a word for a long while. I really had the feeling that something bad should be happening, but I was hoping it wasn't true. I have even called your home, but no one answered, or maybe I just called the wrong number.

I'm glad you are ok. :)
The good news is that I've finally gotten off my old fat butt and joined a gym. I now spend about an hour a day working out, 5-6 days a week. I've got a 'net friend' who used to be a personal trainer and he's helping me. So far, I haven't actually lost much weight, but have lost a couple of inches off my waist and have put on muscles in places that I didn't know I had.
Finally! Don't you dare stopping now! The most difficult thing is enjoying it anyway, since some people get bored easily when working out. But then you must focus on the results and, if you have been having some, that's most awesome news! That's the meaning of your efforts to keep up with your health.
The bad news...
The other bad news is...
Sorry to hear that. I wasn't expecting something that serious, but more work related, big sister. :?

It's how life goes, isn't it? That's a sad happening and I'm sure everyone here feels how it must be hard having our dad in that way, or any of the family. You'll get through this, it'll strengthen you in a way, weaken in another. I think it's always tough dealing with that, no matter what, even if it's not directly evolved with us, but we feel the sorrow coming our way from those we care and that's how I feel about what's happening to you, dearest. I really hope that you father won't suffer too much, because that disease is severe, but if you all show love, care, that'll be worth of anything no medicine will be able to do. The most important thing is letting him know that he is not alone, that he'll be not alone - for that I believe we are all humans and are concerned about each other. We are not meant to be alone. For your mother, I expect she'll do fine in due course as well, if he had given birth to such awesome person you are, Lety, I expect she has some real guts to enjoy life and perseverate to whatever happens in future.

For you, your family, mother and father, I really wish you all love, which is something I can do by now and, in some circumstances, it's all we got and might be all that matters. Kisses, dear, and I'm really happy that you have returned to us, showing that some bonds of friendship can linger for a long time, and yet they get stronger.

See you around, big sister. :)

Just lay your fingers on the keyboard and it will all come back to you...

And it's ok Soups. I didn't notice that you were gone either. :D

And Thanks Tar! You know I appreciate you and your kind words. I just didn't want to be a 'downer' - so we'll move on to talking about happier things.
