Sweden had an Empire?!
. Of course we had an Empire. Hasn't all self-respecting countires had one? ;)

Of course, it never technically was an emperor. As far as I know, none of the regents during that age used the title "emperor". The literal translation of the swedish name of that period is the "Great power age".

Just curious: Which time period do you normally keep this age of grandeur to?

1611 and 1718 are the common start- and endpoints (the start of the reign of Gustavus Adolphus to the end of Charles XII's), but I guess one could argue for them being shifted a bit.

I wouldn't know, never lived in a self-respecting country.

I'll put up a new word shortly.

TT, we never had an empire, but our extremely distant ancestors were part of one... does that count? Oh, and all sorts of empires fought over our lands... It was like a really close Domination type of game in Disciples! :-D
