I found 300 to be a great waste of my time but tastes differ.

What exactly where you expecting?

That was like 20% of the story.
I think the main message ("Our emotions make us human") is a bit naive.
From what i saw the androids had emotions too.

I already wrote about my impressions in this topic some time ago. ;)

I expected something from the special effects, and I have to admit that Eragon in this matter was a lot better though I didn't like that movie too much as well.

Please explain. It does not seem that way to me.
I think the main message ("Our emotions make us human") is a bit naive. I don't say it's a bad idea, but the movie doesn't really take this to a deeper level. It's only a simple story, full of cliches (especially of the film noir) of the man who falls in love with a machine ("the forbidden fruit"). It's enjoyable, but not fantastic. Like I said, it is still one of my favourites. Mainly because of the unique and futuristic dark world.
I think the theme of the film is mortality vs. immortality with a number of supporting themes. There is the nature of femininity (all the main female characters are replicants, and each is a different female archetype). There is the all-seeing eye of big brother (VK eye tests, Eye Works factory, many other representations). And the question of what it is that makes us human (Rachel, memory implants, oragami).

If all you see are the film noire elements, you should look deeper. Incidentally, those are there because the director wanted to place his creation in that genre. To that point there had been no futuristic noire works.

I think expectations are dangerous for your enjoyment of movies

True, but it's quite difficult not to expect good things of a sequal you are looking forward to, like Spiderman 3.

That's a valid point, stefan. :)

It's hard not to feel expectant with all the hype some movies get though. :D

I saw Charlotte's Web yesterday. I said it when I saw the animated version a few years ago and I'll say it again, now that I've seen the new version:

"It is the best book to movie rendition I have ever seen".

No joke! :-D

I liked the original animated version better, but the new one wasn't terrible.

That's the most common theme.

I saw the 40-Year Old Virgin last night (on satelitle TV) and it was a lot of fun, if a bit long for a comedy (I felt that the conversations Andy had with his co-workers were a bit redundant after a while). The waxing scene is something to see.

I saw 300 today. Expected something horrible, but it was nice.

The 40-Year Old Virgin on the other hand was boring like hell.

Yeah, most comedies nowadays are either disgusting or boring.

Agreed. I shouldn't have bothered renting it and just waited 15 years for my friend to become a 40 year-old virgin.
