He was getting his brain flayed a few times per second... it's only normal that he'd be acting like a retard.

I saw Hancock. I wasn't crazy about it but the preview for the next James Bond movie with that same James Bond actor from Casino Royale looked like fun.

People here don't know exactly what to make of the new Batman movie: half says it's good (WONDERFUL...) and other half says it sucks (DREADFUL...). I'm not in a mood to spend much money on a bad movie so...what do you guys think of it? ;|

Went out to the shops last week and bought a few DVD's. I got:

Scarface
Scanners (Complete Collection, includes Scanners 1, 2 and 3)
Silence of the Lambs
Kiss of the Dragon
Legends of Horror (Includes Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Night of the Living Dead 30th Year Anniversary Edition)

I really enjoy Scanners since it is quite a unique film. I really haven't seen one like it. It just has a certain feeling to it. And add the fact the numerous head exploding scenes, most notably the head exploding scene in Scanners 1 which is quite famous (very nice effects).

Scarface is also very good and is probably one of the best Gangster films I have ever seen. I really think the acting by Al Pacino is top notch and he really makes some great lines such as "Say hello to my little friend". A lot of the movie is talking, but that doesn't detract the effect this movie has. It is good the whole way through. The dialogue, even the longest parts, just seem to attract you and make you involved with the story some how. The final fight scene is one of the best I have seen in a long time. I won't ruin the plot but I really think this film is great.

It delves into the life of a gangster, dealing with drugs, sex, money and the effects it has on people. With money comes Greed. And when you have power, then you are nearly unstoppable. That is one of the things that is involved with the story and it tells the story of Tony Montana who rises to power in the American Gangster life style. You really have to watch this movie if you haven't seen it already.

The Silence of the Lambs is one of those rare movies that leaves you with a cold chill in your back after seeing it. It is about a FBI agent in training who is trying to help solve the Buffalo Bill case with the help of a serial killer named Dr Hannibal Lector. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins deliver great performances in this movie, especially the character of Hannibal Lector. The way he talks is a sophisticated way, while at the same time being creepy...in a way. You'll have to watch this movie if you haven't already because it is definitely worth it.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, contrary t popular belief, doesn't really have much gore in it. When people see the title, they automatically assume that it has a lot of gore because of the word 'chainsaw' and 'massacre'. The real chills in this movie come from the characters and the eerie feel of the house and the surroundings. The characters who kill people are real lunatics. They keep their dead parents in their house and they kill people for the fun of it. Leatherface, although he doesn't really have that much dialogue, is pretty creepy. Especially how he just wields the chainsaw around most of the time and his chainsaw dance at the end is just creepy. And adding the fact that at the start of the movie the narrator tells of how this was a "true story that befell a group of teenagers". This movie isn't scary because of the gore, it is because of the characters, the environment and the looks of things. The music also helps give that old creepy feel to this movie as well. I recommend this. :)

What about Kiss of the Dragon? Not your style (not that I watched it anyway) ;)

Kiss of the Dragon is a good movie, but the storyline is kinda weak. Jet Li offers a good performance in terms of fighting but I feel that his character is a little weak. I feel I don't really get to know the main character all too much. It is a good movie and I do recommend it, but there are things that could be improved with this movie.

Nim's Island

Honestly I would give it more than it has on imdb. IMO this is how children movies should be like. Innocent and catchy enough for the children, but with a decent subject, storyline & acting to not bore or annoy the parents. It's maybe the first kids movie in years which doesn't annoy me through stupid jokes and bad plot & acting, and also one of the few I wouldn't be afraid to take my kid to (because of too much violence, bad behaviour examples, etc).

If you have kids, this is the movie to go to with the whole family.

Haven’t seen it, but several friends have and not a bad word about it. If it helps there is a website Boxofficemojo.com that keeps a viewer score card and of 3450 viewers over 97% gave it a B or higher grade. That is very rare.

Over here people are talking posthumous Oscar...

Seriously, as a big fan of Ledger's, I'm really looking forward to seeing his interpretation of the Joker. I was never too impressed with Nicholson; he was nowhere near other madman performances such as "the Shining".

Well, Nickolson was really great. That whole smile, and the way he acts is really great. He is funny, and scary, at the same time, and i think that is a great joker. I still must go and check out the new batman. Just like Kalah, i'm wondering how he did this character...

Saw "Robocop" again last night. It's such good fun, that one. :D

Robo: "My program will not allow me to act against an officer of this company."
Boss: "Dick, you're fired!"
Robo: "Thank you." *pow, pow*

What was even rarer was the fact that it beat a lot of movies on IMDB such as The Godfather and Pulp Fiction. :O

Well I saw Batman.

My impression is Joker = Great. When he was onscreen the movie was electrifying. When he wasn't in it I was pretty bored, though two-face was cool. They just can't get the girl right, I thought this one would be better than Katie Holmes, but she was about the same, boring.

Still, I recommend to see it in the theater, it's still an action movie...not as much fun on DVD.

Yep, saw the Dark Knight also.

And frankly I was disappointed. Sometimes I don't get the critics, and what they're after. When Batman Begins came out, some of the reports were pretty mediocre. Because of that and feeling it's too soon for a new series of Batman movies, I didn't go to the cinema back then. And I was sorry, as it turned out the movie was great: refreshing story, more mature, a bit more... what's the word... realistic/believable (?).

Now came the Dark Knight, with reports saying: "better, huge step from Batman Begins", "more mature"... blah, blah. Bullocks! More serious (than the old series) - yes, but not more mature. The "twists & turns" are as boring/ridiculous as in the previous series. In Batman Begins we had a relatively unexpected twist, when Liam Neeson's true identity was revealed. It was well built, it surprised maybe some of us, yet we all liked that.

In the Dark Knight we have nothing like that. All characters develop either in a predictable way, either change, but this time the change is not really believable. A shock does mark a person, but it doesn't change him/her to the extent you'll see one of the characters changes at some point (and so fast). I'm trying to not give any spoilers, but I'm pretty sure you'll know what I'm talking about and you'll also be like "wtf" when you see that.

Heath Ledger does play well, but it didn't give me the creeps as the reviews made me expect. He was devious, yes, but not that much of a mastermind. He managed to pull some of the things not because of his genius (which would have impressed the viewer), but more thanks to the morronness of all the others - police to start with, but also the rest, including Batman at some point - which reminded me of the previous series. But at least those had the excuse that they were not meant to be serious. But this one did - and yet the way ppl fell into his traps were at times insulting to my intelligence.

If you disagree, well - we better wait till most of us see the movie - and then we can discuss facts. :)

I noted to myself that a long time ago. If people say a move is bad, that means it's worth watching for me :P
