Heavy snow plus harsh winds, they say... it's a blizzard, nothing less.

A typical mistake is with regards to power lines. Instead of digging the lines into the ground, the lines are strung up between posts like it was in the old days. That causes lines to snap and posts to be pulled over. Anyway, the reason the problems occur near the big cities is that a small problem more easily develops into a big one there.

Illustration of why the powerout may take some time to fix; these are the repair guys, having to wade through the thick, heavy snow on the way to one of the problem sites. Now, the message I'd like to transmit to the ones responsible for building the power network infrastructure down south is: all this could have been avoided if all the power cables were underground.

Pretty cold wind today... serious face and ear pain going home now, but couldn't use my hands to cover up because I was carrying groceries. Note to self: scarf up next time.

Pretty hard wind today. That's what makes it somewhat cold, without the wind it's probably 7 degrees, started raining to...

Some are. But not all. Coolest scarves are the long ones who go along with the wind:D

Lots of wet, heavy snow. We've had 40 cm (~16 inches) of snow in just a few hours. Fun for the kids, not so fun for the drivers of cars.

WOOT! Power's back; we had tornado weather last night and it knocked it out around 10 pm. It's been off until about ten minutes ago. Funny note: my roomie was talking on the phone (one of the few things that still worked), said something along the lines of 'I'm just ready for the lights to come back on'--low and behold not five seconds later the power comes back! :-D Woot!

It's lo! and behold - a pleonasm btw. ;) But that's kinda like picking up your phone a second before it rings, isn't it...

It's not snowing any more, but man! is there a lot of white stuff out there. I'll see if I can't get some pics for ya tomorrow.

Let's all slap Stefan for being an ass with his weather reports. Or let the moderators ban him from this threat :beheading:  :tonguehands:
