How is your internet connection?

Unread postby Kalah » 24 Aug 2006, 22:39

I've been wondering how you guys hook up to the web; do you have a line at home; is it your own subscription; do you go to school or use a public computer somewhere?

If you've got your own subscription, please post the specs; ISDN/DSL speed etc.

well, i answered "my own" cause i have 512/128k dsl at home, but the truth is i am generally only on CH from work which is a lovely T1 connection

only 6 months ago i was still on dial up at 56k :( , but that is now just a dim memory (512 is still pretty poor, but we in OZ seem to be dragging way beind the broadband wagon)

waiting for DSLAMs with ADSL2+ to become more common and hit my local exch, then should be able to get about 16Mb

Not necessarily , some migth say that thicker or longer is better but in the end it's all a question of technique, isn't it :D

Not really. You have to count the price as well.If I was working something essential over the net, like transfering lots of images and getting payed for that, then Id say faster is always better. But for regular surfing, its not like that.

I'm leeching....my parents pay for the internet. We have three computers with internet and even if mine didn't have any it would still be the same prize so I'm totally excused for leeching :D

Vote my own line.

Technically I'm leeching off my wife's connection since she had it in the house first before I moved in. Speed is 1.5 Mbps.

My parents pay, and I'm the only one who uses the Internet at home, so I guess I qualify as a leech :D

Same as DL, 128 cable. But to quote Skullmane: "At least that's what they claim... ;|"

Leeching off my parents' DSL right now, before that I was leeching off my university via campus dial-up. My roommate and I considered getting DSL numerous times, but food was more important.
Now you see me, now you don't

I've got my own line (for now), a very high quality DSL; speed 5000/2000, which costs about $50 a month.
