The Local Delicacy Thread

Postby [T]osHiro » Jun 7 2006, 14:10

I can't remember where, but the conversation TT and Milla about Greece and Octopus Tentacles make me feel hungry. So I post a delicacy thread so anyone can look at it and perhaps satisfy their stomach if they're too lazy to walk to the kitchen.

Here's something call 'Satay' by the locals. A popular appetizer with meat on sticks. Dig in!! :yummy:

Here is a poutine:

Image

It is found mostly in Quebec (Canada), but it is slowly expanding to the neighbor provinces and even a few US states. It's made of "french fries topped with fresh cheese curds and covered with hot gravy and sometimes other additional ingredients." (Wikipedia)

It looks gross, but it actually tastes quite good. It's not a healthy meal, obviously.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Not exactly "local", but what the heck:

I think I've already covered Cheesesteaks. So what about the Philly pretzel.

They are traditionally eaten smothered with yellow mustard.

I think he means cream. The kind of cream that's traditionally made from cow milk.

BTW, those are called sarmale and come in three varieties: Moldavian (small and lots of them) and Transylvanian (three or four larger ones) and anything in between.

That's not in English, that's in Romanian.

They're made mainly from meat mixed with rice and wrapped up in cabbage foliage. Moldavian ones can also be wrapped in a grapevine leaf (every little one!) which give a distinct aroma.

Australian's aren't exactly known for their culinary excellence. Our one contribution to world cuisine is:

Has anyone ever eaten it? It's made from the dregs left over from the beer brewing process and it tastes as "good" as it sounds :).
