Contributing to Celestial Heavens Wiki

Unread postby Dave_Jame » 27 Jun 2012, 19:46

Hello everybody,

I am one of those people who think that the M&M games deserve a quality Wiki page. The one connected to Celestial heavens is on of the best Wiki out there and I would like to expand it. But to do this in the best way I need some opinions from other people. And since the Wiki is connected to celestial heavens, I think This is the best place to ask for it.

I have already made some minor contributions to the Wiki.

The list of Artifacts http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/w/inde ... fact_(CoH)
And the List of Units http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/w/inde ... nits_(CoH)
Orcs of Ashan page http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/w/inde ... cs_(Ashan)

I am planning to do something bigger in the near future. And I would appreciate any feedback on the current topic and also on the already created Pages (Especialy The Units)

Please help me make my contributions better:-).

Current topic: The Monsters of Might and Magic VI
http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/w/inde ... I_monsters

The first Page I plan to "Upgrade" is the Orcs (Ashan) page that I think lacks some needed content
http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/w/inde ... cs_(Ashan)

I will soon poste my purposal for this page. I'll just make some Grammer corrections.

EDIT:
OK Editing done
This is the text I Plan to post on the WIki

==The Orcs of Ashan==
In the world of Ashan orcs are the result of magical experiments of the mages of the Seven Cities. They have been created during the war of the first bloodmoon eclipse when the allies were looking for ways and weapons how to stop the demon invasion.
After the war, the orcs have been enslaved and used by the Mages and Knights for hard labor. For more then hundred years orcs were forced to work their masters, but in the year 467 YSD they have started to rebel against them. The unrest stared in the Seven Cities but soon spread into the Holly Falcon Empire. Many orcs died, but most of them managed to escape. The exodus of the orcs had three main directions. South, Northeast and East. The period between 467 YSD and 504 YSD, when the rebellion took place, is also known as the Orc Crusades. The reason to end the crusades was a divine sign, when the royal fleet pursuing the orcs was sunk by an unnatural storm.
Not all orc have been freed, and many of them have remained slaves in various regions of the Holly empire.

==Orc History==
===The creation of Orcs===
Asha, the primal dragon of Order has been sleeping and healing within the silvery cocoon of the moon since Chaos was defeated by her champion, Sar-Elam. There was a slight flaw in the wizard's sealing ritual that has allowed the Demons an opportunity to escape. Should Asha be obscured by her twin brother Urgash, the primal dragon of Chaos, the chains that bind him at Ashan’s molten core would be dangerously loosened.
In YSD 330. the races of Ashan bare witness to the first lunar eclipse, and the first demon invasion.
Totally unprepared for the onslaught of the demon hordes, the defensive lines of Asha’s children are swiftly broken and they are forced to retreat. First the Elven lands are overrun. A hurried alliance between the remainder of the Elves, the Humans and Dwarves fares no better. The survivors flee south, hotly pursued, hoping that within the magic of the Wizards of the Seven Cities they will find something to stop this relentless invasion.
Their hopes dwindle and prayers seem in vain. In battle after battle the Demons are victorious; the only resources left to the defenders are fear and desperation…
It is at this point that a daring experiment is made. Focussing the energy of inert earthen elements on a human body pumped full of demon blood, the Wizards discover that they can bring it back to life. Though the beast immediately dies, they learn that they could perhaps combine two fundamentally opposed forces to create a new race, a different race, a race made from a child of Asha and a child of Urgash. Such a creation could turn the balance in the war.
Though their Haven allies are opposed to this atrocity for religious reasons, the Wizards remain pragmatists and explain that if they were only allowed to continue, they could make a powerful army. This new race, later to be known as the Orcs, would inherit strength and immunity to Demon magic from their demonic blood. Their human body would give them fertility and the assurance to walk the surface of the world freely. The desperation of the dark hour, which had chased away all other hopes and alternatives gives the Wizards their opportunity. Reason leaves for brighter pastures. The experiment is repeated in mass.
Failures are numerous: burning bodies, madmen, and beastly freaks are born from their arcane laboratories in alarming proportions. But a breakthrough is made by a wizard named Ishizaar in Shahibdiya. He discovers that by increasing the concentration of elemental components, notably through augmenting and properly aligning the energetic prisms of gems and crystals, the conflicting forces are confined in a manner that remains stable.
The Orcs are born.
Their coming to the battlefield is like a tornado through a field of crops. Unable to use their magic against the savage power of the Orcs, the Demons are helpless. Fuelled by the power of their blood rage and united by indivisible bonds of clan-like brotherhood, the Orcs turn what was to be the Demons' finest hour into a nightmare of slaughter and rout. Behind the Orc shock troops, the nations rally. Time is now on the side of the allies who use it to develop defensive and offensive strategies incorporating their new elite forces. Their improving art of warfare swings the tide back in their favor, and the Demons days on Ashan seem counted.
The Demon Lords, boiling in anger, refuse to go down alone. They swear that if their legions will not survive the war, neither will the Orcs. Their solution is one of demonic simplicity – with no Orc children, there will be no future for the Orcs.
The demon tactics turn to infiltration and assassination. As their creators drive their Orc slaves to the front lines to fight, unprotected Orcish villages are visited at night by shadowy forms haloed in flames and terror. When the victorious tribes return to their huts, their future generations and hopes are missing.
The diabolical plan came too late however. The Demon troops are destroyed even more quickly than predicted, and with a raging vengeance. The plans that had taken them centuries to elaborate are broken. Their prison is sealed anew. The Orcs live on and give birth to new offspring.
Among the other races of Ashan, the great war against the Demons that started in YSD 330 is known as the War of the Blood Moon– the first eclipse, the first Demon invasion, a horrifying memory of near extinction. In the Orcish counting of the years, the event has a different name: the War of the Empty Cradles.
There are some things that the Orcs will never forget, will never forgive. Though the other races may view Demons and Orcs as but two sides of the same coin, for the Orcs that concept is incomprehensible. The two races, forever, shall be brother enemies.
===The liberation===
In the year 467 YSD, after more then houndred years of slavery, the orcs have started a rebellion against their masters. Rejecting them, as well as there Dragon Gods. Initialy starting the Seven Cities the wave of uprising spreads throughout the lands of wizards and the Holly Falcon Empire. Orcs attack their masters and guards, winning their freedom and later freeing other slaves. The most famous leader of the rebels is Kunyak, the liberator, who has freed slaves across the lands of the Seven cities.
The Falcon Empire declares a crusade against the orcs in an attempt to subjugate them and convert them back to dragon worship. The fighting is brutal, and the Orcs are relentlessly driven back.
Those, who have not been killed flee to wherever they can. The deserts of the south, or the steppes of the north-east. Kunyak and his followers flee to the the Barrier Islands of the east. Later known as the Pao islands.
In an attempt to catch the fleeing orcs, the Falcon Emperor sends out a large fleet to pursue them. But the fleet is sunk by a great storm. The Emperor declares this a sign from the Dragons, and formally ends the Orcish Crusades in the year 504 YSD. Kunyak who manages to save his kinsman becames a legend and an icon for all orcs.

==The allies of Orcs==
The orcs have a sense of understanding for races that share similar fates as they do. It is common that orcs accept such creatures as their allies and often see them as one of their own.
* Goblin: Goblins are misfits of the Orc experiment. Mostly created from lesser demons, they are smaller and weaker than orcs. They are known to be very cowardly but also cunning. Orcs see Goblins as their little brothers, but the way they treat them varies from clan to clan. The Goblin was also the basic platform for the creation of gremlins later in Ashan history.
* Cyclops: Cylopses are as goblins misfits, but from the oposite reason than Goblins. Created from the blood of greater demons their bodies were twisted and transformed by the demon essence. Cylopses are extremly strong and dangerous. Their mental capacity is limited and their mind is unstable which makes them a threat for everybody in their near. Orcs respect the Cyclopses for their brute force and power.
* Beastman: The Beastman are as well the result of wizard experiments based on their experience with Orcs. Unlike the Orcs, Beastman were created combining humans and animals. Different kinds of Beastman have met different fates. But some, like Centaurs and Harpies, have allied with the Orcs.

== Orc Homelands==
After their exodus instigated by the crusade, the orcs have settled down in three regions.
*Rannar: The north-eastern steppes that spread from the boarders of the Holly Empire are one of three orcish homelands. The clans of Rannar live mostly in peace with each other, feuding mostly with the neighboring duchies and free cities. The high lord of the Rannar orcs carries the title Khan. The title can be either inherited or the new Khan is chosen by trial.
* Pao Islands: The archipelago east of Heresh is the second orcish homeland inhabited by the descendants of Kunyak‘s followers. The memory of Kunyak is very stong here and almost ever present. The Pao orcs are threatened by pirates, nagas and seafarers, but most of the time the clans fight among themselves. Only the presence of a strong leader can unite the clans. But often, the leaders show their strenght in the form of fear rather then respect. The capitol of the archipelago is Taumata-Kunyak, named after the great liberator.
*The souther desert: Almost nothing is known about the orcs that fled to the southern deserts except the fact that they should live there.
==Games in which Orcs are Present==
The orcs and their allies are usually used to represent the Stronghold faction. They have been introduced for the first time in the 2nd add-on to Heroes of Might and Magic V, Tribes of the East, and since that time they have been present in 4 Ashan based Might and Magic games.
*Heroes o Might and Magic V: As the Stronghold faction introduced in the 2nd add-on, The Tribes of the East.

You have BBCode turned off there for some reason...

If you want to get the opinion of other people, post the page proposal in your sandbox, so that we could see it with formatting applied. In this case, your sandbox page for that article is this:
http://wiki.celestialheavens.com/w/inde ... 28Ashan%29

Basically, anything that is after the '/' character after your user page is your sandbox, where you can test out pages before submitting them to the wiki itself.

As far as I know, it's 467-470 YSS. There was retcon during HVI development.

470 YSS again.
Great storm was called by Eternal Empress, who "used" Hai Ryou to sink this fleet, after Orcs gave her Cup of Thunder (or something like that - details are in Sanctuary 3rd mission)
In HV ToE they were water spirits (water elementals), who after gain Cup of Thunder, sunk the fleet. In HVI these water spirits were changed to one water spirit - Dragon Eel a.k.a. Hai Ryou

Not probably, he was a goblin. Read Batu's Totem staff description.

Holy Empire
He did not defeat Naga riders. These Nagas (under Mukao, one of Faceless, leadership) wanted to conquer Orcs to use their Dragon Blood mines for a ritual learnt to them by Dragon Knights, to stop the Eclipse and Demons. After Eclipse came, Orcs and Nagas stopped fight and joined forces to fulfill the ritual. When they gathered enough resources to do that, Abyssal Worm came out from underground and swollowed ritual ingredient(s) (crystals and/or Tear of Asha). After he was defeated, the ritual could be completed by both Nagas and Orcs and Demons were purged from Pao Islands.

Crag Hack, the infamous barbarian who rose to the head of an Orc tribe, is said to have thrown those words likes javelins at Baron Rufus during a truce meeting in the middle of a three-day battle. The Unicorn Baron was complaining that the strafing attacks from Crag's notorious Clouds of Furies were dishonorable because his men could not retaliate.

Thanks. I didnt know about the date retcon. I used m old material from Heroes V

This is exactly what I wanted. I'll make the sandbox page and then post it for rewiev

@Kalah: I tried to contact Corlagon but he is hard to find these days.

@Avonu:
1: Is that infromation about the Great Storm really necessary to be noted?
2: About Crag. The quote you posted could be placed into his personal page, I do not think it is necessary
3: About Mukao: As I recall (since I played this map today) You actually have to defeat Mukao and he even wishes to die until the eclipse comes and they join forces. Would it sound better if I used defend against the Naga?

Here you have right quote - as for rest, see above :D
The prophesized Blood Moon Eclipse reddens the sky over the body-strewn battlefield. The omen would have been seen as a sign from Father Sky congratulating the Orcs for their victory, had the Blind Brothers not predicted decades ago an imminent Demon invasion. As soldiers and warriors look in wonder and awe, Sandor decides the moment is well chosen to have a conversation with his disarmed foe. Sandor approaches the defeated Naga leader.

You put a space before the "Orc Homelands" title, and so it's not displaying correctly. You might want to fix that.

Also, disambiguate the "Goblin" link.

Hello guys, I'm deeply sorry for the delayed response, but I have very infrequent stable internet access of late, due to personal issues. That aside, I would love to be contributing to the CH wiki on a regular basis as before, but Ubisoft's handling of Heroes VI has diminished my enthusiasm in the series altogether - at least for now. All kudos to Marzhin on reviving Crag Hack and Varn in the upcoming DLC, but sadly the price tag is a bit of a joke for only three maps.

Dave, your contributions and activity are more than impressive, so I've given you bureaucrat rights at the wiki and my wholehearted blessing to do as you wish. If you encounter anybody else who you feel is trustworthy, please feel free to promote them too. Be aware that only the main page turns up on Google for some reason (don't know if that's because of a barrier or simply a low SEO); if you or the CH staff can somehow fix or improve this, I'd guess you could attract quality contributors much more quickly.

Well, if you click on the link that points to "Goblin", it leads into a disambiguation page. Instead, it should link to one of the articles listed in the disambiguation page - most likely "Goblin (H6)".

Well it cant lead to H6 goblin due to the fact that the article is about orcs of Ashan in general, not about orcs in a specific game.And goblins are in all 4 games in which Orcs have been sofar, so the dis. is not actually that bad of a solution. Well Unless somenone woudl like to create a Goblin_(Ashan) page sometime in the future.

That's a good point, but then the name of your article itself should probably be changed. The Goblin disambiguation page has almost exactly what is needed - Goblin (race). Just, in this case, it should be split to Goblin (Ashan race) and Goblin (Enroth race). And therefore the article on orcs could be called Orc (Ashan race). That would keep it uniform and easy to understand, as the way it is now, there is no way to tell whether the article is about the units or their history and culture. Or, alternatively, the Goblin (H5) and Goblin (H6) pages could be merged into Goblin (Ashan) to have a page that shows both the units and their history in a single place.

I understand what you say, and I have noticed the "blank" Goblin (race) page. And If I understood Gorlegon good, I now have the option to change names of pages.. am I right?

But Also I woudl like you to considere one thing. You say I should destinguis in the dis. between Goblin (units/creatures) and Goblin (Races/Lore). The dis. do not work this way right now, or do they? If I woudl go to the Orc page, I see different pages of orcs (Creatures in H1-4) Links to orcs of ashan etc. There are no grupes lik Orc (creature/unit) Orc (Monster) Orc (Race). Just links directly to the pages. I think the current Dis. system is sufficient

I can make a page in teh future that woudl be "Goblins (Enroth)" wich woud folow the same system as the "Orcs (Ashan)" one, and I think it is understandable now. (True there is no "Goblins (Ashan)" page right now)

I don't really get what you mean... when it comes to disambiguation pages, generally they should simply link to any existing articles that are named the same. If there are units called "Lizardmen" and a page about the Lizardmen race as a whole, then you have a disambiguation page with links to the two.

Starting from Today, I will work on a slightly bigger project. As the summer is here, many people use the free time to replay good old games. Games like Might and Magic VI. And I am one of these people. To use advantage of my Current insight of the game I have decided to work ona the "Monsters of Ashan page" Creating a hopefully well made and informativ web of pages.

I state in Advance, that I plan to strongly remake the current page. Add States, Images and in game information. I have most of the Images ready for Upload at this time, But do need help in one specifick field.

In the variuse rumers that are present in the game, there are many who talk about some of the creatures. To save myself time surfhing for these references, I woudl highly appreciate if some moders could recomand me a tool with which I could acces the games Text's .

I will post a sandbox link of a standard monster page when one is ready.
