Has anyone else noticed that the bats in Might & Magic 7 make the exact same sound as the worms in System Shock 2?

That's called stock audio clips.

I hear the Deus Ex alarm all the time in TV shows.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Other well knowns are doors creaking, pottery breaking, that sort of thing.

I've always wondered about this, really. You make a game or a movie, spending tens or hundreds of millions, and can't be bothered to record a few simple sounds? I know it's not a big deal, but every time I recognize a stock sound I think "cheapskates".

What a shame. B-)

Back in the day, Team Fortress 2's "Achievement Unlocked" sound used to pop up randomly in Beavis & Butt-head episodes. Here's one of them:

OMG, spot on, sometimes I really hate hearing that same sound all over again.

Don't forget the HoMM3 obelisk sound. Or, well, the Wilhelm Scream.

Startled cats in movies all make the same annoying sound. I'm fairly sure you know what I'm referring to.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

I also remember the pistol sounds being identical in Deus Ex and Daikatana. Oh, the irony! ;3

Probably the only stock sound effect that actually gains "style points" from the audience. :D

Something I noticed were the sounds made by the velociraptors in the first Jurassic Park being the same sounds that the horse-like beasts in Avatar movie make. A short-sort of bark. ;|
