I was thinking they're just generic things or creatures, just like that firefly was a valid, albeit wrong, entry earlier.

In this case, I don't have any other ideas!

Time out!

It was the...

Image
Square treasure box! Yeah I know, the name is so original that if you don't know it you can't find it. :hoo:
Actually if you type "square box" in google you can find its image easily.
TheLuckyDragon had a very good feeling with the greyish-green being jade, and typing only "25.4cm 20.4cm jade" in google led to the answer.

Next object, I tried to make it easier. If you understand what kind of thing it is the answer is at hand:

Shape: Complex, main part roughly egg-shaped
Size: Usually about 0.5in long
Weight: Light.
Color: Orange/red and dark blue/dark brown
Defining characteristic: This small dragon is the friend of creationists

Edit: removed "best" in description to avoid confusion with something else, sorry.

Maybe a dumb guess, but:

From Faberge.
Hmm, I guess that doesn't fit at all, does it? :)

Well... the "dragon" is a metaphor (you should have understood that with the other elements) related to something the thing does. It's also related to its appearance in a documentary released around 2004/2005.
As for the egg shape, it's only for the main part, there is a bit more than that.

Sorry (really?), that's a wrong answer ;)

Version with hints:

Shape: Complex, main part roughly egg-shaped
Size: Usually about 0.5in long
Weight: Light.
Color: Orange/red and dark blue/dark brown
Defining characteristic: This small dragon is the friend of creationists for its defense system
Hint: It's an insect.

How about this, the bombardier beetle?

They are interesting little boogers, aren't they?

There are many ways to find it. The easiest (if you don' t know the answer) is to type "insect defense creationist" in a search engine and you'll find it too... :|
Then you check it fits the description and that's it. B-)

From the beginning it's easy enough to understand it's an insect. And since ground beetles are one of the largest family of insects, checking those before make it easy to find it.

I cannot anticipate if these are going to be easy or tough before I post them. :)

Shape: slightly flattened sphere describes it pretty well.
Size: a little shy of 13 feet in diameter at its widest, and still growing (well, once a year anyway)
Weight: 9 tons
Color: tan
Defining characteristic: owns a disputed title

Oh, me... Err... I was talking about dragon designs in video games and movies with a friend and remembered about a 2004 fake documentary "dragon's world: a reality made real" (it had nice dragons of different kinds in 3d), that beetle was used as an example on how a living being could "spit fire". So I noted it down, searched enough infos about it and posted it.

I was thinking a rubber band ball would fit well with that, but it can grow more than once a year.
