Need a Name

Unread postby ScarlettP » 04 Oct 2009, 22:42

What's a good name for a player character based on "Holy Cow"???

Considering that this group has a far more diversified group of nationalities than any other forum I have ever frequented, I'd like to toss that question for you non-English as a first language speaking folk to make suggestions.

I've mentioned lately that I now play World of Warcraft. Next year, they are going to come out with a new expansion pack called "Cataclysm." In that expansion, new playable races will be available as well as new race/class combinations. Personally, I like the Tauren, which are basically minotaurs. Naturally, Taurens always get a lot of 'Cow' jokes. In Cataclysm, the Taurns will be allowed to play Priests and Paladins for the first time.

The player name "Holycow" is already taken. So I want something that means the same and sounds cool. I tried looking it up for a direct translation on AltaVista Bable fish, but many of the languages listed there use the proper alphabets of the language which I can't pronounce. Others just don't sound good. Like in Italian, "Holy Cow" is "Mucca Santa". That doesn't work well in American culture as it sounds like Mocha, which is chocolate coffee and Santa only goes with Claus at Christmas.

So please put your little thinking caps on and give me an idea. Phonetic spellings will be just fine. The proper native letters would make it almost impossible for others to 'whisper' me as it's difficult to use those letters on an American standard keyboard, even if you know how.

*** Just FYI - my Guild Master's main characters are named Woden and Grummsh. He has a thing for being godlike.

Limit - 12 letters. No spaces. No 2nd capital. So if it's two words, you sort of have to know what they are. I was hoping for something in Norwegian, Portuguese or Hungarian.

Well, "holy cow" in Norwegian is "hellig ku", but that's not really as funny... ;)

Vacasacra = sacred cow
Vacasfanta = holy cow, in Romanian

Bousacru = sacred ox
Boudivin = divine ox

Taursacru = sacred bull
Sacrotaurus, Sanctaurus for a Latin ring :)

Or Papalbull (you know, bulls are also official documents released by the Papacy) :rofl:

If I ever get the expansion, I'll play a Worgen and name it Fluffy.

Mooshubowoo (as in bow oo) was the name i used for the 10 day free trial tauren character i made once...

Maybe Bowoosanctoo, Vitasacra, Sacravita ( sounds close to italian for sacred life too) or Bovinusanctus.

Woden and Grummsh
Human and Orc?

Either try Wocyloh or Kodesh Ku or simply PiaBoss :P
(written backward: in yiddish: in latin with additional s - tr. by online dictionary )

Or Svatej Bejk alebo Svata Krava :D
(Holy Bull or Holy Cow in my native language, do not mistake with "Sťata Krava" which would means Stinko Cow - alas totally drunk )

Or you may just try the Warhammer spirit of naming D'žholy Cow :devious:

PS With your limit it's of course hard but I believe that they can be respelled to fit. In hungarian it could been "Jambortehen" but let confirm it first from someone who speak that language.

Oh, sorry, I thought that was rhetorical.

Woden is a Troll Warrior. Grummsh is an Orc Shaman. We're all hordies.

Why is Woden (also known as Odin) a troll?! Oh well, at least it's the right mythology...
